- Ending more than four decades of wait, India and Bangladesh will start the exchange of 162 adversely-held enclaves from today's midnight, marking the start of implementation of their landmark Land Boundary Agreement (LBA).
- India will hand over 51 enclaves, comprising 7,110 acres to Bangladesh.
- Bangladesh will give India 111 enclaves comprising around 17,160 acres.
- Bangladesh and India will implement the LBA of 1974 and the enabling Protocol of September, 2011, in a phased manner over the next 11 months.
- Note : According to an estimate, around 37,000 people are living in Indian enclaves in Bangladesh while 14,000 people are staying in Bangladeshi enclaves in India.
- After considering the requests received from several quarters, the Central Government has decided to declare 7th August as National Handloom Day every year beginning from this year 2015.
- The first National Handloom Day will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai on 7th August, 2015.
- On this day, the Sant Kabir Awards and National Awards for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 will be awarded and a new ‘India Handloom’ brand for better market positioning of quality handloom products would be launched on this occasion.
- The decision is aimed at development of handloom weavers in the country.

- In a first, Delhi government today notified a policy regarding protection of witnesses with provisions for a protection fund and processing of such requests by competent authority.
- The AAP government said that 'Delhi Witness Protection Scheme' will ensure protection of witnesses in "crucial" cases.
- Note : Delhi becomes the first state notify such scheme.
- Government has decided to set up two separate All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu and Srinagar.

- Maharashtra Government announces construction of 800 kilometer Nagpur-Mumbai expressway with a cost of 30,000 crore rupees.
- Ministry of Tribal Affairs has revised the Central Sector Scheme known as Development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), w.e.f. 1st April, 2015.
- Under this scheme, the Ministry will provide 100% financial assistance through State Governments for activities including housing, land distribution and land development, agricultural development, animal husbandry, construction of link roads, installation of non-conventional sources of energy or other innovative activity, for the comprehensive socio-economic development of PVTGs, based on Conservation-cum-Development (CCD) Plan prepared by the concerned State Governments on the basis of assessment of their requirements.
- Under the Scheme, priority is accorded for their protection and improvement in terms of the social indicators like livelihood, health, nutrition and education, so as to decrease their vulnerability.
- Note : At present there are 75 tribal groups identified and categorized as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), (earlier known as Primitive Tribal Groups) located in the States/UT of AP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, TN, Tripura, UP, Uttarakhand, West-Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- Traffic police in Hyderabad city of Telangana state procure 'Body Worn Cameras' under a 'smart policing' initiative to reduce crimes and to improve police-public interface.
- Under the initiative brought about by the state government, traffic police officers would use sophisticated GPRS-enabled body-worn cameras which would record exchanges with the public.
- Government has set a target to procure three crore tonnes of rice during the next Kharif marketing season (2015-16).
- Rice procurement has already surpassed the target set for the ongoing 2014-15 marketing year. T
- The Food Corporation of India, the nodal agency for foodgrain procurement and distribution, has so far purchased more than 31 million tonnes for rice.
- Finance Ministry is expected to disburse about Rs 20,000 crore to various public sector banks in the next two months to shore up their capital base.
- Of this, Rs 10,000 crore would be provided to weak public sector banks which require more capital.
- For the current fiscal, the government has allocated Rs 7,940 crore in the Budget for capital infusion in state-owned banks.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue Rs 10 denomination coins to commemorate International Yoga Day.
- Japanese media group Nikkei agreed to buy the Financial Times from Britain's Pearson in a $1.3 billion deal that brings together two leading financial news operations from Europe and Asia.
- India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was today presented the Arjuna Award, which was conferred on him last year, by Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
- Ashwin was not present during the Award Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan on August 29, 2014 as he was a part of the India ODI team, which was touring England at that time.
- The 28-year-old Ashwin, who is also a useful batsman, has taken 124 wickets in 25 Tests, 139 in 99 ODIs and 26 wickets in 25 T20 internationals.
- Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, a top Afghan Taliban leader who backed the peace process and a former aviation minister in the pre-2001 Taliban regime, has been appointed as the new Chief of the insurgent group, as Taliban today confirmed the death of its longtime supremo Mullah Omar.
- Beijing chosen to host 2022 Winter Olympics, becoming the first city to stage both the Summer and Winter Games.
- Note : Throughout more than 120 years of Olympic history, no city has hosted both the winter and summer games. Now, Beijing will be the first do it — and in the span of just 14 years.
- Fourteen year old Master Prabhroop Sekhon clinched two gold medals in 300m and 500m Roller Skating in the Special Olympics World Summer Games being held at Los Angeles, USA.
