- Today (Last Day of February) is Rare Disease Day.
- This day aims to raise awareness about relatively unknown diseases and their impact.
- Started as a European event, over 80 countries across the world have joined the campaign.
- Note : According to the World Health Organisation, a disease found in less than 6.5-10 people per 10,000 people is defined as rare.
- Theme of Rare Disease Day 2018 : research
- Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani today offered to recognise Taliban as a legitimate political group in order to end the over 16-year-long war. "
- He also proposed a ceasefire and the release of Taliban-linked prisoners along with fresh elections and a constitutional review.
- Belgium's capital Brussels is going to provide free public transport on days of excessive air pollution under new emergency rules.
- Speed limits of cars would be reduced by a third and wood fires will be banned unless they are the only source of heating for households.
- The 2 day International conference on Sustainable Biofuels was held in New Delhi.
- This conference was jointly being organized by Department of Biotechnology and Biofuture platform.
- Aim of this Conference : To provide common platform to Government policy makers, industry, investors and research community to exchange experiences and challenges related to development and scaling of advance biofuels.
