Sorry for Not Posting in a While

Dear friends, extremely sorry for not posting in a while. In the past few weeks I had encountered some health issues and some roadblocks in my everyday life that I had to sort through, which unfortunately left our Gr8AmbitionZ on the backburner for a while.

Things are going well now. Thank you so much for your awesome wishes. I’m recovering well and will be as good as new very very soon! You will get regular updates from Gr8AmbitionZ  (both pending and new) from 1st December 2019 along with Hindu Editorials, Daily & Monthly Current Affairs). May God Bless you all :)

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be on a 3 day visit to Netherlands from tomorrow.
    • During this visit, he will hold comprehensive discussion on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
    • He will also interact with members of the foreign affairs committee of the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament and Dutch dignitaries across the political spectrum. 
  • Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is visiting United Arab Emirates (UAE). 
    • During this visit, he will attend the inaugural Ministerial session of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference
    • Accompanied by officials and business delegation, the Minister is scheduled to meet his UAE counterpart Minister of Energy and Industry, Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei
    • Both the countries will discuss issues of bilateral hydrocarbon as well as steel sector engagements.

  • 8th November 2019 was observed as World Usability Day.
    • This day was established in the year 2005 by the Usability Professionals Association, (now the User Experience Professionals Association).
    • Aim of World Usability Day :  to promote the values of usability, usability engineering, user-centered design, universal usability, and every user's responsibility to ask for things that work better.
    • Theme of World Usability Day 2019 “Design for the Future We Want”.
  • 6th November 2019 was observed as International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.
    • This day was established on 5th November 2001 by the United Nations General Assembly, during Kofi Atta Annan's tenure as Secretary-General.
    • Aim of this day : To educate people about the damaging effects of war and armed conflict on the environment.
  • 5th November 2019 was observed as the World Tsunami Awareness Day.
    • Aim of this Day : to spread awareness among people across the world about Tsunami. 
    • The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had constituted the day by adopting a resolution in December 2015. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a 2-day visit to Brazil from the 13th of this month.
    • During this visit, he will attend the 11th BRICS Summit in Brasilia. 
    • This will be the sixth time that Mr Modi participates in the BRICS Summit. His 1st BRICS Summit was at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014. 
    • Important Note : Theme of 11th BRICS Summit  : "Economic Growth for an Innovative Future”.
  • India in 2020 will host the next edition of 'No Money for Terror' Ministerial Conference on Terrorism- Financing
    • The conference is a group of countries that focuses on countering terror financing.
  • New Zealand has passed a "zero carbon" bill that aims to reduce the country's carbon emissions to zero by 2050 and meet its commitment under the Paris climate agreement. 
  • US President Donald Trump administration has filed paperwork with the United Nations (UN) to withdraw the United States (US) from the Paris climate agreement
    • President Trump in 2017, while announcing the US' withdrawal, had said the climate accord would negatively impact the US economy and kill jobs. 
  • PM Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Kartarpur Corridor.
    • This will allow pilgrims to travel to Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan
    • Modi flagged off the procession of around 500 pilgrims, which also includes ex-PM Manmohan Singh, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and actor-politician Sunny Deol. 
National Current Affairs
  • 9th November is National Legal Services Day.
    • This day was first started by the Supreme Court in the year 1995 all across the India to offer help and support to the weaker and poor group of sections of people (women, disabled persons, Scheduled Tribes, children, Scheduled Castes, human trafficking victims as well as natural calamities victims).
    • Minister of Law and Justice - Ravi Shankar Prasad
  • Pronouncing the verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, the Supreme Court ordered that the disputed land must be given to Hindus for the construction of temple and alternate land must be given to Muslims. 
    • Adding the Ayodhya site is one composite site, the court said, "Land measuring 5 acre shall be given to Sunni Waqf Board."
    • While reading out the verdict in the Ayodhya title suit case, the Supreme Court said that Babri Masjid was not constructed on vacant land.  
    • The Supreme Court has also said that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has not established whether a temple was demolished to build Babri Masjid. 
      • The court, however, said that the fact that there was a temple beneath the destroyed structure has been established by the ASI.  
      • While pronouncing the verdict, the court also said that Allahabad High Court was wrong in dividing the disputed site into three parts in its 2010 ruling. 
      • Today's verdict coincides with the foundation laying ('shilanyas') ceremony performed on November 9, 1989 by the RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders. 
      • The 5-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, which pronounced the verdict is headed by Ranjan Gogoi (Chief Justice of India).

Hi friends, I am Shravan. Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi is going to be the new Chief Justice of Tripura High Court. Before that on 3rd November 2019 4 new Justices namely Ajay Kumar Mittal (Madhya Pradesh High Court), Amreshwar Pratap Sahi (Madras High Court), Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew (Meghalaya High Court) and Sanjay Karol (Patna High Court) have been took charge.   • Russia's "sovereign Internet" law came into effect from today. 
    • This law lets the country's government cut off its network from the rest of the World Wide Web.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is on a 3 day visit to Tashkent (capital of Uzbekistan)
    • During this visit, he held bilateral consultations with his Uzbekistan counterpart Major General Bakhodir Nizamovich Kurbanov.
    • Both the countries signed 3 MoUs to enhance cooperation in Military Medicine and Military Education.
    • Note : This was the 1st visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Uzbekistan in about 15 years.
  • The 9th round of India Bangladesh Friendship dialogue concluded in Cox's Bazar (Bangladesh) with a call to build a strategic space between the two countries based on learning and experience of the past and expectations and aspirations for the future.
    • It also appealed for greater collaboration between North-Eastern states of India and Bangladesh to enhance bilateral trade.
    • The event was jointly organised by India Foundation and Bangladesh Foundation for Regional Studies.
National Current Affairs
  • 2 days after Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh came into effect following bifurcation of J&K state, the government today released the New political map of India
    • According to Home Ministry, the new union territories of Ladakh consists of 2  districts of Kargil and Leh and the rest of the districts of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir are in the newly created union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
    • Important Points to Note :
      • India now has 28 states and 9 Union Territories
      • RK Mathur was sworn-in as the 1st Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
      • GC Murmu was sworn-in as the 1st Lieutenant Governor of J&K.

  • 1st November 2019 was observed as World Vegan Day.
    • This day was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis, then President & Chair of The Vegan Society.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Bangkok for a 3-day visit to Thailand
    • During this visit, he will address the Indian diaspora in Bangkok this evening. 
    • The name of the event is 'Sawasdee PM MODI'.
    • During the event, Prime Minister Modi will release special commemorative coin marking the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Thai translation of Tirukkural (Tamil Classic).
    • Tomorrow Prime Minister Modi will co-chair the 16th  India-ASEAN summit to take stock of the progress made in the relationship between ASEAN and India. 
    • Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar. 
    • On Monday, Modi will take part in the 14th East Asia Summit to review the future direction of East Asia Cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues. 
    • Modi will also participate in the 3rd Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) summit.
  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in India on a 3-day visit.
    • She co-chaired the fifth India-Germany Intergovernmental Consultations along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and also hold talks with President Ram Nath Kovind.
    • After themeeting she announced €200 million (around ₹1,600 crore) will be earmarked to reform the bus sector in Tamil Nadu
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the 18th Meeting of Council of SCO Heads of Government in Tashkent as the Special Envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
    • During this meet, she has said that the only way to fight the scourge of terrorism is to strengthen and implement all existing international laws and mechanisms without exceptions or double standards.
National Current Affairs
  • In the recently released National Health Profile 2019, Indian government admitted that in 2016, India's public spending on health was 1.17% of the GDP, which is lower than the nations classified as the 'Low Income Countries'. 
    • India's public health expenditure is also lower than South-Asian countries like Nepal, Bhutan. Country's health budget for 2019-20 stood at almost ₹62,000 crore.
  • Jharkhand Assembly elections to the 81 constituencies will be held in 5 phases from November 30 and counting of votes will take place on December 23, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora has announced. 
    • Note : In 2014, BJP had won 37 seats, while Congress managed seven seats in the state.
  • Hyderabad has been adjudged as 'Creative City' in gastronomy category by the UNESCO
    • Hyderabad is one of the two cities from India, among the total 66 creative cities selected by the UNESCO across the globe. 
    • The other city from India, Mumbai, has been selected as a 'Creative City' for its contribution to the world of films.
  • In order to raise awareness about plastic waste management and reduce the usage of single-use plastic, Noida Authority has installed a plastic bottle crusher machine at its campus. 
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • A WTO panel has cleared China to impose levies on American goods worth $3.6 billion annually in a case that predates the current trade war. 
    • China argued that US anti-dumping duties on steel and other products were illegally inflated. 
    • The damages, the third-highest awarded in WTO history, are about half of what China had sought.
  • Late singer Michael Jackson has been named the highest-paid dead celebrity for the 7th consecutive year by Forbes.
    • Jackson, who died in 2009, topped the list with the earnings of $60 million (₹424 crore). 
  • Uttar Pradesh government on Friday allotted ₹447.46 crore for building a digital museum on Lord Ram in Ayodhya. 
    • The money will also be used for acquiring 61 hectares of land in Ayodhya for building a 251-metre high statue of Lord Ram. 
  • Telecom regulator TRAI has fixed mobile phone call ring at 30 seconds, in case the call is neither answered nor rejected. 
    • This comes after Airtel reduced its ring time, alleging that Jio's ring duration results in a missed call and forces the receiver to dial back.

  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is on a two-day visit to India, held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following which 22 wide-ranging agreements were signed between the two nations to strengthen their bilateral ties. 
    • The pacts include joint declarations for cooperation on strategic projects, green urban mobility, smart cities, startups and agricultural market development.
Science & Technology
  • At least two dozen Indian academics, lawyers, Dalit activists and journalists were targeted for surveillance for two weeks until May 2019 on WhatsApp
    • Israeli cybersecurity firm NSO's technology 'Pegasus' sent 'exploit links' to people to penetrate their phone's security without their knowledge. 
    • Once installed, Pegasus could extract users' private data, passwords, texts, and even voice calls.
  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has tied up with national space agency ISRO to set up a research centre that will carry out projects in space technology. 
    • The centre is also aimed at providing scientific solutions to India's first human space mission Gaganyaan and other future missions. 
  • Guido van Rossum, the creator of computer programming language Python, has announced that he is leaving cloud file hosting service Dropbox after over 6.5 years and is now retired.

  • Telugu actress Geetanjali Ramakrishna (72) passed away.
    • She has acted in more than 500 films and is known for her role in films like 'Seetha Rama Kalyanam', 'Abbaigaru Ammaigaru' and 'Sambarala Rambabu'. 
  • Film producer Champak Jain, who produced the Akshay Kumar starrer 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari', passed awa.
    • Champak was also the owner of Venus Records & Tapes and United 7. 
Awards & Honors
  • Actor Rajinikanth will be honoured with the Icon of Golden Jubilee award for "his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema" at the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).  
    • French actress Isabelle Huppert, who was nominated for 2017 Oscars for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the festival.
  • Sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has been selected for the Italian Golden Sand Art Award 2019
    • He will be honoured at the International Scorrana Sand Nativity in Italy scheduled to be held from November 13 to 18. 
  • Bollywood Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui was awarded the Golden Dragon at the Cardiff International Film Festival for his 'excellence in cinema' in the global arena. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • Bollywood Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan unveiled the trophies of both the Men's and Women's T20 World Cups to be held next year in Australia. 
    • The Women's T20 World Cup will start from February 21, 2020 followed by the Men's World Cup which will start on October 18.
  • The Indian women's hockey team moved a step towards Olympic qualification with a 5-1 win over USA in the first-leg of the two-match FIH Qualifier in Bhubaneswar. D 
  • Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran who won 3 gold medals in the 7th Military World Games recently in Wuhan in China was felicitated at the Madras Engineering Group and Centre in Bengaluru.
    • Subedar Anandan had won Gold in 100 meters, 200 meter and 400 meter race as a para-athlete.
    • Note : He is the 1st Indian Para Athlete in T-44 category to bag medal for the Army in the World Para Military Games and break the Asian record.

    • Today is Halloween.
      • The word Halloween came from 'Hallowed evening', and is the day before All Hallows Day - also known as All Saints' Day.

      • This was the year of 1969 when Charley Kline, a student programmer at the UCLA transmitted the first ever message on 29th of October in 1969.

    • US President Donald Trump has confirmed that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in a US military operation in Syria.
      • Important Note : The US military operation to kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was named after Kayla Mueller, a humanitarian worker from Arizona who was held hostage by the terrorist group. She was tortured by ISIS and repeatedly sexually abused by Baghdadi himself. 
    • Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced his resignation amid the ongoing anti-government protests. 
      • The protests were triggered by the government's plans to impose taxes on WhatsApp calls and other apps, with demonstrators demanding broader economic reforms and an end to corruption.

    • Nation is observing Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) to mark the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
      • Today is also the 4th anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project 'Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat' which aims to strengthen the cultural bond between the states. 
      • On this day in 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's memorial in Gujarat's Narmada district. 
        • Called the Statue of Unity, the bronze sculpture is the world's tallest statue measuring 600 feet (182m) and overshadows China's Spring Temple Buddha (153m) and USA's Statue of Liberty (93m). 
        • The 182-metre-tall Statue of Unity honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is double the height of USA's Statue of Liberty (93 metres).

    • 28th October 2019 was observed as National Ayurveda Day.
      • Ayurveda is the oldest healing science. It orginated in India more than 6000 years ago.
      • The literal meaning of Ayurveda is "Knowledge of Life".
      • To celebrate this day, the Al India Institute of Ayurveda in collaboration with Ministry of AYUSH organised a programme titled ‘Run for Ayurveda’. 
      • Around 3,000 people participated in the event.
    • Women in Delhi will not have to pay for bus rides in the state-owned DTC buses (both AC and Non-AC). 
    • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched around 35,000 schemes worth over ₹1,600 crore as a part of the 'Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali' campaign that seeks to boost green cover and the water table in the state. 
      • Foundation stones were laid for 32,781 schemes, while another 2,391 were inaugurated by the CM.
    Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
    • Uber is going to launch its financial service Uber Money in 2020 to support both Uber riders and drivers.
      • Uber Money would be based on the National Payments Corporation of India's (NPCI) real-time payment system Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and will give drivers direct access to their money. 
      • Note : With this, India will be one of the 6 countries to get Uber Money.
    • World Bank President David Malpass has announced that the financing agency expects to continue with its $6 billion annual lending target for India
      • As 97 projects, with $24 billion committed, were presently being executed with loan assistance from the World Bank. 
    • China's legislature has passed a cryptography law amid the country's plans to launch its own digital currency. 
      • The law, effective from January 1, aims to strengthen the management of passwords and set standards for information and national security. 
      • This follows President Xi Jinping calling for China to accelerate the development of blockchain technologies.
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a ₹1 crore penalty on Bandhan Bank for not meeting its promoter holding norms.  
      • Bandhan Bank had failed to pare the shareholding of Bandhan Financial Holdings from about 82% to 40% of its paid-up voting capital within three years from commencement. 
      • The deadline was set for August 2018.
    • Pakistan has issued a commemorative coin to mark Guru Nanak Dev's 550th birth anniversary in November. 
      • It will be available at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur and is worth Pakistani Rupees 50. 
      • Note : The Kartarpur Corridor, constructed by Pakistan and India to allow Indian pilgrims to visit the gurdwara, will open from November 9.
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on Pune-based Janata Sahakari Bank and Rs 25 lakh on Jalgaon Peoples Co-operative Bank for violating income recognition, advances management and asset classification norms.
    • 3 Indian-origin CEOs have been featured in a list of world's top 10 best-performing chief executives.
      • On the 6th spot is Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, followed by MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga, ranked 7th and Microsoft chief Satya Nadella on the 9th spot. 
      • The Best-Performing CEOs in the World, 2019' list compiled by the Harvard Business Review (HBR) features 100 CEOs and has been topped by American technology company NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang.Among the top 10 chief executives on the list, three spots have been occupied by the Indian-origin CEOs.

    • Former Supreme Court Judge and Karnataka Lokayukta N Venkatachala (89) passed away.
      • He served as a Supreme Court judge from July 1992 to July 1995. 
    • Paul Barrere (71), the guitarist-vocalist of rock band Little Feat, passed away. 
      • Paul joined the band in 1972.
    • Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former Lok Sabha MP Gurudas Dasgupta (83) passed away.

    • Lieutenant Colonel Swaroop Singh Kuntal became the fastest Indian to complete Ironman Malaysia triathlon in a record time of 12 hours and 14 minutes.
      • The triathlon consists of 3.8 km sea swimming, followed by 180 km cycling and finally 42.2 km of running.
    • Nirmal Purja, a 36-year-old Nepali mountaineer has become the world's fastest climber after scaling the world's 14 highest peaks in a record time of over 6 months.
    New Appointments
    • Radha Krishna Mathur was sworn-in as the 1st Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh.
    • Girish Chandra Murmu was sworn-in as the 1st Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir
    • President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI).
      • He is set to take oath on November 18. 
      • His name was recommended by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi earlier this month. 
    • BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar took oath as Haryana Chief Minister for a second consecutive term. 
      • JJP President Dushyant Chautala was sworn-in as Deputy CM.
    • Sophie Wilmes is set to take over as new caretaker Prime Minister of Belgium.
      • With this, she becomes the 1st female to hold the position. 
    • Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Anup Kumar Singh took charge as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) from October 28.
    • Pavan Kapoor, a 1990 batch Indian Foreign Service officer took charge as the new Indian Ambassador to UAE.

    • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated world number six pair Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe of Japan in the BWF World Tour 750 French Open men's doubles semifinal. 
      • This is the 1st time an Indian men's doubles pair has reached the final of a World Tour 750 event. 
      • The pair will meet top-ranked Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya.
    • Former England women's cricket team bowler Eileen Ash, the oldest living Test cricketer, turned 108 years old. 
      • She made her debut against Australia and played seven Tests for England either side of World War II, taking 10 wickets at an average of 23.00. 
      • In 2011, Ash had become the 1st-ever female Test cricketer to turn 100.
    • The Bangladesh Cricket Board has agreed to play the second Test of the upcoming two-match series against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata as a Day-Night match
      • The match will be both India and Bangladesh's 1st-ever Test under floodlights
