What to Prepare for AP Panchayat Secretary Exam 2014 : Syllabus and Books

Friends, finally we have successfully completed the AP VRO / VRA Exams. So now its time to focus on upcoming Panchayat Secretary recruitment exam which is going to held on 23rd February 2014. With this exam, the government of Andhra Pradesh is going to recruit 2,677 Panchayat Secretaries. Obviously the competition will be very high. The reasons for the high competition are, job security, there are new notifications from last 1 year due to various issues in our state, its 2 years since the APPSC has released the notification of Panchayat Secretaries. Ok, now you might have got a clear idea on how hard you should prepare for this exam.

Now lets start our preparation discussion with the syllabus and books of Panchayat Secretary exam.

Syllabus of AP Panchayat Secretary Exam 2014


As you might have already observed from the official website, there are two sections in this exam. General Studies (Paper I) and Rural Development and Problems in Rural Areas with special reference to Andhra Pradesh (Paper II). Below are the topics they've mentioned in the syllabus notification.


Paper-1 : Being APPSC Exam aspirants, Most of you already might have the basic idea on the General Studies syllabus of APPSC Exams. But there is a slight change from earlier APPSC General Studies syllabus and Panchayat Secretary's General Studies syllabus. Lets have a detailed analysis....
  • Polity and Geography : There is no need to prepare polity and geography.
  • Current affairs : International, National and Regional. It's better to prepare 1 year current affairs.
  • General Science :  No need to prepare general science, instead of it focus more on Information Technology. The syllabus given in the notificaiton is Current Developments in Science, Technology and Information Technology.
  • History : They clearly mentioned History of Modern India with special emphasis upon Indian National Movement. So, there is no need to prepare ancient history. Focus on the incidents during and after the democracy.
  • Economy : No change (Economic Development in India since Independence)
  • Arthritic and Reasoning : No arthritic. For reasoning focus on Analytical Ability and Data Interpretation (Logical reasoning, Analytical Ability and Data Interpretation).
  • Geography : No geography. Just focus on Disaster Management. Basic things about Disaster Management (CBSE –VIII & IX standard) [You will get 5-15 questions from this section]
  • Polity : No Polity.


Paper-2 : This is almost new section for us. So we have to work hard on this. And luckily we can get some simple questions from this paper. There are 5 sections in this paper. Each section may contain 30 questions. This syllabus of Paper 2 was completely based on the 34 tasks, which you are going to perform after joining as Panchayat Secretary. So with a little focus you can easily clear this paper with good marks. Now lets have a detailed analysis...

  1. Public Health and Sanitation, prevention of epidemics, hygiene behavior, village development : You have to focus on various health related schemes of Government, deceases, reasons and preventing methods.
  2. Social tensions and conflicts in contemporary society – problems of deprived groups : Focus on the problems which are being faced by SC, ST and other Minority regions, statistics, Various conflicts in AP and their prevention methods. 
  3. Indian System of Democracy – Democratic institutions, Panchromatic Raj – Co-operative Institutions in the service of Rural Areas, their role and their effectiveness : Focus on the mentioned organizations, their policies, maintenance problems etc.
  4. Rural Economy and Development – Scientific developments relevant to rural areas – labour saving devices.
  5. Basic aspects related to Accounting : This section will be a cake walk for B.Com / M.Com students. Ofcourse, students of remaining groups also can get good marks with a little hard work (as they only ask questions form basics). Focus on Accounting Basics, Making of Accounts and their maintenance, Computerized accounting, correcting accounting mistakes etc.

  • General Studies : 6th, 7th and 8th Telugu Academy Text books. 10th, 11th and 12th NCERT Books.
  • Science and Technology : Various Science and Technology Magazines and books (There is no specific book. You can prepare from any book / website based on the given syllabus).
  • History :
    • A. P. History by BSL Hanumantha Rao, P. Raghunatha Rao
    • Indian History :
      • NCERT Books
      • M. A. Books on Modern Indian History by Bipin Chandra (Ambedkar Open University)
  • Polity : For this section you can depend on Telugu Acadamy / Ambedkar Open University / Various Degree Text books according to your convinience.
    • Indian Polity by Lakshmi Kanth
    • Books of R. C. Reddy Publications / P. M. Bakshi are also helpful.
  • Economy :
    • Indian Economy : Mishra and Puri / Agarwal / Dutt and Sundaram
    • Andhra Pradesh Economy / Indian Economy by Telugu Akademy
    • Economic Survey and Census released by the Government of India
  • Logical Reasoning : Any basic reasoning text book / Reasoning Articles published by Gr8AmbitionZ.
  • Current Affairs
    • Various News Papers /  Year Books / Websites, based on your convenience
  • Disaster Management : Books of NCERT and CBSE

Paper II :
  • Telugu Akademi Books,
  • Andhra Pradesh State Budget and Economic Survey 2013
  • B.Com text books for basic on Accounts.

Exam Pattern / Paper Model : Well, to be frank nobody knows the exact pattern of the exam. Ofcourse many of you might already have bought some practice papers from market. But friends its better not to dependent on those previous and practice papers available in market. Its just waste of money and time. As we've already said, nobody knows the exact pattern as the syllabus has completely changed this time. Instead of it, you better prepare previous APPSC papers to get the good knowledge on Paper.
