  • Greece supports India in its bid for permanent membership in the UN Security Council, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said during a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today. 
    • The two leaders also agreed to deepen India-Greece bilateral cooperation and inked a pact for launching the first direct flight service between the two countries.
  • PM Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka on the sidelines of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad.

  • The Karnataka Assembly has passed an Anti-Superstition Bill.
    • This bill bans 23 superstitious practices including human sacrifice, parading women naked and segregation of menstruating or pregnant women etc.

  • PM Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 30-km-long 1st phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail
    • Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao and Governor ESL Narasimhan accompanied PM Modi for the inaugural run.
    • Note : The metro line will have 24 stations, with fares ranging from ₹10 to ₹60.

  • Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad has secured 49th position in the QS Global MBA Rankings 2018
    • Harvard Business School (US) topped the list, followed by INSEAD and HEC Paris. 
    • Note : IIM Bangalore and Indian School of Business were the other Indian institutes named among top 100, being ranked 58 and 93, respectively.

  • The 41-nation Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) pledged to wipe out terrorism at its first meeting today.

  • In a first, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has formulated clinical guidelines on responding to children and adolescents who have been sexually abused.

    • They will assist frontline health care providers — general practitioners, gynaecologists, nurses and others — who may directly receive victim of sexual abuse or may identify sexual abuse during course of diagnosis and treatment.

  • India observes its 'Constitution Day' today.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has decided to hold the Parliament's Winter Session from 15th December 2017 to 5th January 2018. 
    • Bill to ban triple talaq and bill on OBC Commission are likely to be introduced in the session.
    • The Parliament session will begin a day after the second and final phase of polling for the Gujarat Assembly election.
  • Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will soon introduce Electric buses in the city.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has promulgated an ordinance under Article 123 of Constitute to amend Indian Forest Act, 1927 to encourage bamboo plantation by farmers in private lands.
    • The ordinance omits bamboo (taxonomically a grass) grown in non-forest areas from definition of trees. 
    • The omission, thereby exempts it from requiring permits for felling or transportation of bamboo grown in non-forest areas.

  • PM Narendra Modi today launched e-governance app titled UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), which unifies over 100 central and state government services. 
    • The app presently offers services related to payment of bills, filing income tax, Aadhaar-related queries, among other things.
    • UMANG also allows a user to link their Aadhaar number and social media accounts with the app.
  • The government today selected famous monument Charminar located in Hyderabad as a 'Swachh Iconic Site' and directed the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to ensure cleanliness around the monument. 
  • The cabinet today approved ‘Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra’ scheme for a period 2017-18 to 2019-20.
    • The scheme is part of Umbrella Scheme “Mission for Protection and Empowerment for Women” of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development. 
    • Aim of this Scheme : Empowering rural women through community participation to create an environment in which they realise their full potential.
  • The Election Commission has restored the 'Two leaves' symbol of the AIADMK for the party's E Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam camp
  • Aiming to provide ₹5,000 as financial aid to pregnant and lactating mothers, the Maharashtra Cabinet today approved the implementation of Centre's Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
  • The cCabinet today approved expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Yojana for a pan India coverage from 2017-18 to 2019-20.
    • This expansion will cover all the 640 districts of the country to have a deeper positive impact on Child Sex Ratio (CSR).
    • Note : Currently the scheme is being implemented in select 161 districts have low CSR.

  • India today asked the United Nations to declare 2018 as the International year of millets and promote it as nutrition-rich smart food across the world. 
  • Bali's Mount Agung volcano erupted for the first time in 54 years, forming an ash cloud 700 metres in the Indonesian sky.
  • Iranian President Hassan Rouhani declared the end of ISIS, although he acknowledged that the remnants of the militant group will remain.
    • Note : The Syrian Army had declared victory over the Islamic State earlier this month.
  • The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Russia from 27th  to 29th  November, 2017.
    • During  this 3 day  visit,  Union Home Minister will be holding discussions with Mr. Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Minister for Internal Affairs  and other senior Russian leadership. 
  • Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is on a 4-day visit to India.
    • He will hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which the vexed fishermen issue is likely to figure.
    • The two leaders are also expected to deliberate on issues relating to maritime security, amid efforts by China to strengthen its naval presence around the waters of the island nation.

  • Iraqi forces today captured Rawa, the last ISIS-held town in the country.
    • Officials added that Iraqi forces would now focus on routing the militants who fled into the desert and exert control over Iraq's borders. 
    • Note : The US-led coalition supported the operation to retake Rawa with intelligence, air strikes and advisers.
  • India and China today held their first meeting on border consultation and coordination mechanism in Beijing after the Doklam standoff. 
    • Both sides reviewed the situation in all sectors of India-China border and agreed that maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas is important for growth of bilateral relations.
  • At least 15 nations today joined the Powering Past Coal Alliance to phase out the use of coal by 2030. 
    • They are Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, New Zealand, Ethiopia, Mexico and the Marshall Islands.
    • Led by the UK and Canada, the alliance was launched at the UN climate summit in Germany.
    • Some of the world's biggest emitters such as China, Germany, India, and Russia, did not join the pact.

  • Indian PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump pledged that the two countries should have the "world's greatest militaries". 
    • During a meeting at the ASEAN Summit in the Philippines on Monday, the two leaders also discussed a bilateral strategic partnership to enhance defence cooperation between India and the US, and expand economic ties and market access for each other.
  • An All-women panel will chair the annual meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF) for the first time in the organisation's nearly 50-year history in Switzerland next year.
    • The decision has been made in face of criticism that the conference has in the past lacked female representation.
    • Important Note : The 7-women panel includes Indian social entrepreneur and activist Chetna Sinha.
  • Japan will simplify its visa rules for Indians from January 2018 and issue multiple-entry visa for short-term stays.
  • Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Trade and Industry today officially declared yoga as a sport. 
    • Any Saudi citizen wanting to practice or teach yoga can avail a licence from the government. 
    • Note : The campaign to recognise yoga as a sporting activity was led by Nouf Marwaai, who also became the first certified yoga instructor in the country.

  • Maharashtra government has decided that scholarships reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) students will be extended to students belonging to Economically Backward Classes (EBC) including the Maratha community. 
    • In a government resolution, the state also increased the annual income limit for availing the scholarships from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹6 lakh.
