International Current Affairs
  • 7th edition of joint Indo-Bangladesh Training Exercise SAMPRITI 2017 was recently held at Counter Insurgency & Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte in Mizoram.
    • Aim of SAMPRITI 2017 : To strengthen and broaden the aspects of interoperability and cooperation between the Indian and Bangladesh Armies.  
  • In a first, Oxford Dictionaries will have a 'Hindi Word of the Year 2017'. 
    • It has asked people to send their suggestions before November 29, while the final word will be announced in January next year.
MOUs & Agreements
  • The Union Cabinet today approved the following agreements :
    • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Poland for Promotion of Civil Aviation Cooperation.
    • Agreement between India and Belarus on Scientific and Technological Cooperation for mutual benefit in the areas of science, technology, agriculture, etc.
National Current Affairs
  • In a bid to become plastic-free by March 2018, the Maharashtra government is going to ban the use of plastic packaged drinking water bottles at government offices and will subsequently extend the ban to private offices. 
  • Madhya Pradesh has partnered with Nagaland and Manipur under Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat Yojana to strengthen cultural relations between them. 
  • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated Aadi Mahotsav, a fortnight long Tribal Festival in New Delhi. 
    • Theme of the Festival : A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Cuisine and Commerce’.
  • The Union Government has given go-ahead for setting up India’s first mega Coastal Economic Zone (CEZ) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Maharashtra.
    • The first of its kind mega CEZ will stretch along north Konkan region spread across Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik and Raigarh. 
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Digital payments platform Paytm along with ICICI Bank has introduced a new option titled 'Buy now - Pay later'.
    • With 'Buy Now, Pay Later' option users can pay the amount for any purchased item after 45 days of making the purchase.
    • This option will offer the "loan" ranging from ₹3000 to ₹10,000 without charging any interest. 
  • The Union Cabinet today approved the establishment of National Anti-profiteering Authority under GST. 
    • It is aimed at ensuring that benefits of reduction in GST rates are passed on to consumers by way of reduced prices. 
    • The authority would enable consumers to apply for relief if they feel the reduction in prices is not being passed on to them.
  • International credit rating agency Moody's Investors Service has upgraded India's bond rating for the first time in 14 years, saying continued progress in India's economic and institutional reforms will enhance its high growth potential. 
    • It has upgraded India's bond rating to Baa2 from its lowest investment grade (Baa3). 
    • It has changed the outlook for India's rating to stable from positive.
  • Singapore has suspended trade relations with North Korea in compliance with UN sanctions against the reclusive nation's nuclear and missile programmes.
    • Important Note : Singapore is North Korea's seventh largest trading partner.

  • Important points to note about 2018 FIFA World Cup Teams
    • This will be the first in history in which four Arab nations - Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia - will participate. 
    • South America's Peru will play a World Cup after 36 years. 
    • Panama and Iceland will be featuring in their first-ever World Cup.
    • Note: FIFA 2018 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 14 to July 15 in Russia.
