International Current Affairs
  • Today (19th November) is International Men's Day.
    • Theme of International Men's Day 2017 : "Celebrate Men and Boys"
  • Today (19th November) is World Toilet Day.
    • The United Nations has designated November 19 as 'World Toilet Day', to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. 
    • Theme of World Toilet Day 2017 :  "wastewater"
  • Today (3rd Sunday of November) is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
    • This day is observed every year to remember those who died or were injured from road crashes and the plight of their loved ones who must cope with the consequences of their deaths or injuries.
    • Theme of World Day of  Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2017 - "2020 Target: reduce road fatalities AND serious injuries by 50%"
  • Canada has officially opened its first permanent highway to the Arctic Ocean
    • The 138-km-long highway will connect Tuktoyaktuk, a Canadian hamlet on the Arctic Ocean which was previously accessible only by air or winter ice road, to the southern parts of the country. 
  • At a joint trilateral meeting, India, China and the US have agreed to enhance cooperation in efforts aimed at improving cyberspace security.
National Current Affairs
  • Communal Harmony Week or Quami Ekta Week is being observed around India, beginning today.
    • Aim of Quami Ekta Week : To foster and reinforce the spirit of Communal Harmony.
    • Quami Ekta Week will be observed all over the country, from the 19th to 25th November, 2017.  
    • Important Days which are being observed during this week are :
      • 19th November - National Integration Day, 
      • 20th November - Welfare of Minorities Day, 
      • 21st November - Linguistic Harmony Day 
      • 22nd Novevmber - Weaker Sections Day
      • 23rd November - Cultural Unity Day 
      • 24th November - Women's Day
      • 25th November - Conservation Day
  • India has the highest number of people, about 732 million, without access to toilets, as per 'Out of Order : The State of the World’s Toilets 2017' report.
Awards & Honors
  • Miss India Manushi Chhillar (20) was crowned Miss World 2017, making India the winner after 17 years at the beauty pageant.
  • Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development 2017, for his achievements during the "momentous" ten years of his tenure.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today cancelled a bond sale via Open Market Operations (OMO) worth ₹10,000 crore.
    • This comes after Moody's Investors Service upgraded India's sovereign rating to Baa2 from its lowest investment grade (Baa3).
  • A Swiss parliamentary panel has approved the automatic exchange of information between Switzerland and India
    • The pact allows the transfer of information including tax identification number and will help India in identifying accounts hoarding black money in Swiss banks. 
    • However, the panel has asked the Swiss government to amend the pact and "strengthen concrete individual legal protection".
Deaths
  • Malcolm Young (64), the co-founder and rhythm guitarist of the rock band AC/DC has passed away.
  • Turkey's three-time Olympic gold medal-winning weightlifter Naim Suleymanoglu (50) passed away. 
    • He is fondly called as the 'Pocket Hercules' due to his short height of 4.8 feet.
    • He has won the World Championships five times representing Turkey and twice representing Bulgaria.
    • He was the first-ever weightlifter to claim gold at three different Olympic Games.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by 185 runs to lift the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2017 trophy in Kuala Lumpur today.
