Time and Distance Problems (Important Points and Tips to note)
- Out of the three quantities (Speed / Distance / Time), we are required to find one. Information regarding the other two will be provided in the question stem.
- Usually involve something / someone moving at a constant or average speed.
- Understand the concept behind the formula rather than just using it blindly.
- If there is more than one unknown quantity, do not blindly assign another variable to it. Look for ways in which you can express that quantity in therms of the quantities already present. Assign another variable to it only if this is not possible.
Now let's do some practice problems. Try to solve these on your own. You can check Solutions with Detailed explanations from here.

Statutory Warning for the speed of 96 Kmph ? LOL ........ you people are so funny . I liked the way you teach things :)
ReplyDeleteplz provide problems on profit and loss
ReplyDeleteAnswer of 20th question should be 12 km/hr.
ReplyDeletePlz correct me if I am wrong.
Shivani Mam, Kindly check the answers of Ques 7 and 20. I think the answer of ques no. 7(3) and 20 (2) else all are correct. Answered 18/20. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteplease solve q.13
ReplyDeleteAs we know, time= dist./speed
ReplyDeleteSo, d/60= (t+3/60) eqn...1 (3/60 because we need to convert in hrs.) and t is the usual speed and hence he reaches office late so (t+3/60) hrs.
d/80= (t-5/60) eqn...2
60(t+3/60)= 80(t-5/60)
solving t=29/60 hrs.
Put the value of t in any one of the above equation:-
d= 60(29/60+1/20)
d= 29+ 3= 32 km.
in ques no. 7.. 12 and 20 should be in km not kmph
ReplyDeletehow to solve qus 4..pls explain...
ReplyDeleteThanks Maitri.Now i realise i can't qualify ibps po.
ReplyDeleteyeah...ans for question no.7 is 4kmph
ReplyDeletesomebody explain Q.15
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance
d=st
ReplyDeletehere s inversly propertonal to t
now let initial speed s1=s
final speed S2=5/8S
initilal tymT1=t
as it takes 1. mins more so T2=t+12
now applying formula S1/S2=T2/T1
S/(5/8)S=t+12/t
solving the equn t=20
here diff between time period is 54 min=54/60 hr
ReplyDeletenow d= st
t=d/s
let actuall speed is s
and increased speed is s+10
now t1-t2 =54/60
180/s -180/s+10 =54/60
solving s=-50 and 40
as speed cant be negative so s= 40
here diff between time period is 54 min=54/60 hr
ReplyDeletenow d= st
t=d/s
let actuall speed is s
and increased speed is s+10
now t1-t2 =54/60
180/s -180/s+10 =54/60
solving s=-50 and 40
as speed cant be negative so s= 40
explain qno19
ReplyDeletecheck the question no 7. i think it is not kmph. it may be 12 km and 20 km..
ReplyDeletethe trains left from oppsite diren so the reletive speed Rs=65+80=145
ReplyDeleteniw they left8am and crossed at 4 so total tym taken by them 8 hr
so appkying formula t=d/Rs
8=d/145
d=1160
yes it should be km
ReplyDeletethanks a lot.........
ReplyDeleteanswer of question 20 will be 12,plz check
ReplyDeleteanswer for ques no - 20 is 12 kmph
ReplyDeleteno problem bro
ReplyDeletethanx soooooooooooo muchh............:)
ReplyDeleteit is well useful for me madam////thanks a lot
ReplyDelete12 th question explanation lo 4(B+C)=44=>B+C=11
ReplyDelete13th question (product of speeds/diff b/w speeds)xdiff b/w time
ReplyDelete=>(80x60)/(80-60)x((5-(-3))/60)
=>(80x60/20)x(8/60)=>ans=36
