  • Reform - make changes in something in order to improve it
  • Sigh of relief - to ​suddenly ​feel very ​happy because something ​unpleasant has not ​happened or has ​ended
  • Intransigence - refusing to ​change ​your ​opinions or ​behaviour
  • Emerging - starting to ​exist
  • Accrue - received by someone in increasing amounts

  • Veto - to ​refuse to ​allow something
  • Repealed - officially cancelled
  • Relent - to influence or pressure
  • Persuasion - to make someone do or ​believe something by giving them a good ​reason to do it
  • Inaction - failure to do anything that might ​provide a ​solution to a ​problem
  • Pound of flesh - something that you have the ​right to ​receive but is ​unreasonable to ​demand from someone
  • Acquiesces - to ​accept or ​agree to something unwillingly
  • Rescind - officially cancelled
  • Loophole - a ​small ​mistake in something that will help others to make use of it

2nd February 2016 - Important Current Affairs updates

International Affairs
  • Today (2nd February) is World Wetlands Day.
    • This Day is celebrated to raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands.
  • An association called 'Fliederlich' today opened Germany's first shelter for gay refugees in the city of Nuremberg. 
    • The shelter, a two-storey house, can accommodate 8 people and has already received four requests. 
    • The initiative was taken after around 20 refugees alleged that they felt threatened in the shelters they were put up in.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) today declared Zika virus as a global public health emergency.
    • Note :  No case of virus reported in India.
  • Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari has embarked upon 5-day official Visit of Brunei and Thailand. 
    • The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary is also accompanying him.
    • He is visiting Brunei at the invitation of Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah. 
    • This will be the first high-level visit from India since the establishment of diplomatic relations with Brunei in May, 1984.

RBI's 6th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Review Highlights

In it's Sixth Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Review, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has left the key policy rates unchanged. The central bank will now focus on the government’s annual budget statement at the end February to decide on whether to cut interest rates further.   • Precision - the quality of being exact and accurate

  • Untangle - to make a ​complicated ​subject or ​problem ​clear and ​able to be ​understood

New Notification Regarding IBPS Clerks V Main Exam Results

Friends, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released a new notification about IBPS Clerks V Main Exam Results. As usual, nothing new in this notification except asking aspirants NOT TO CALL for results. The organization has stated that, it is still waiting for the clarification about Interview process from higher authorities and further requested all the aspirants not to call and ask about the result. 1st February 2016 - Important Current Affairs updates

  • The first part of the Oxford English Dictionary was published on this day (1st February) in the year 1884. 
    • Published originally as 'A New English Dictionary on Historical Principles', it was called the 'Oxford English Dictionary' for the first time in 1895.
    • Under the editorship of James Murray, the final and 126th part of the dictionary was published in 1928, 44 years after publication began.
  • The parliamentary session that will install Myanmar's first democratically elected government in over 50 years began today, with majority members from pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's party. 
    • Note : Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won 80% of the total elected seats in the elections. 
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has asked all countries, including India, to introduce age-classified ratings for films and other entertainment programmes with tobacco imagery to restrict the number of new adolescent smokers.

As you know, the organization has conducted online exams for the recruitment of Officers Scale (I, II & III) and Office Assistants posts in Regional Rural Banks in the month of September 2015, conducted interviews for shortlisted candidates during during the months of November / December 2015 and released the results of the same on 1st January 2016.
