International Current Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the 1st Indian Prime Minister to visit Bahrain
    • During this visit, Modi launched the $4.2 million (₹30 crore) redevelopment project of the 200-year-old Lord Krishna temple in Bahrain.
    • The government of Bahrain pardoned 250 Indians serving sentences in the country during Modi's visit. 
      • Note : As per official data, 8,189 Indians are lodged in prisons in foreign countries, with Saudi Arabia having the highest at 1,811.
  • Modi is on the way to France from Bahrain to attend G7 meeting in Biarritz
    • During the visit, the Prime Minister will have bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit in which India has been invited as a partner country.
    • The annual meet is being attended by the leaders of seven member states -- France, Italy, Canada, United States, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom
    • US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are in Biarritz to discuss various issues during the G7 meeting.

  • During the visit of PM Modi, India and Bahrain signed 4 agreements in the fields of Culture, Space, Solar alliance and an MOU on the roll-out of RuPay card.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to celebrate September as a month of Nutrition.
  • Gujarat topped in 2017-18 in the Composite Water Management Index (CWMI 2.0) report  released by NITI Aayog.

  • On the occasion of 13th anniversary of enactment of Food Safety and Standards Act, (FSSA) 2006, the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan inaugurated regulator Food Safety and Standard Authority of India’s (FSSAI) National Food Laboratory (NFL) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani launched Project SURE, a move towards sustainable fashion at Lakmé Fashion Winter/Festive 2019 held in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 
    • SURE stands for ‘Sustainable Resolution’.
    • The project aims to move towards sustainable fashion that contributes to a clean environment.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the 1st World Youth Conference for Kindness in New Delhi.
    • This conference was held in commemoration of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.
    • It was aimed at providing youth with creative, effective methods of engaging and realising UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred 'The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance' by the King of Bahrain. 
    • Important Note : Earlier, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also conferred its highest civilian award 'Order of Zayed' on PM Modi.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is going to launch Bharatcraft portal, a desi version e-commerce marketing platform. 
    • It will be based on the lines of e-commerce behemoths such as Alibaba and Amazon.
    • It will provide platform for MSMEs to market and sell their products and in turn boost the overall sector.
    • It has potential to achieve revenues of around Rs 10 lakh crore in the 2-3 years.
  • Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has approved proposal to declare Ocean Energy as Renewable Energy
    • It has clarified to all stakeholders that energy produced using various forms of ocean energy such as tidal, wave and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) will be considered as Renewable Energy. 
    • The decision will give boost to ocean energy in the country. 
    • It will make ocean energy eligible for meeting the non-solar Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO).

  • Russia launched life-size humanoid robot named Fedor to International Space Station (ISS)
    • It is the 1st ever life-size humanoid robot sent into space by Russia

  • Indian professional badminton player P V Sindhu today became the 1st ever Indian badminton player to win Gold medal at the BWF World Championships
    • The world number 5 has defeated world number four Nozomi Okuhara (Japan)
  • In football, Gokulam Kerala FC won the 129th Durand Cup, defeating heavyweights Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata today.
    • Golden Ball & Golden Boot Awards won by Gokulam Kerala FC forward Marcus Joseph.
    • Golden Glove Award won by Gokulam Kerala FC’s goalkeeper CK Ubaid
  • India's Komalika Bari became recurve cadet world champion at the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid, Spain, today. 
    • She defeated higher-ranked Sonoda Waka of Japan in the  final  and earn India's second gold on the final day of the  Championships.
