International Current Affairs
- French politician Christine Lagarde today announced that she is going to resign as the Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) with effect from September 12.
- She has been nominated by the European Council as President of the European Central Bank. Her resignation has been accepted by the IMF Executive Board with effect from September 12.
- Note : David Lipton remains the IMF Acting Managing Director in the interim period.
- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has declared the end of Military rule in the country after he resigned as the head of the military junta.
- Prayut had led the coup in 2014 and served as junta leader and Prime Minister.
- He will continue to serve as the Prime Minister with the support of the Parliament.
- Around 140 days after the Balakot strike, Pakistan for the first time opened its airspace "for all type of civilian traffic", including that from India.
- The country had earlier claimed it would not open its airspace for commercial flights until India removed its fighter jets from forward Indian airbases. Several airlines incurred losses due to the shut airspace.
National Current Affairs
- The government today cancelled the recent Postal Department Examination conducted for recruitment of postmen and other posts following the protest by the opposition led by AIADMK and DMK in the Rajya Sabha.
- The opposition was protesting against the examination conducted on 14th of this month only in English and Hindi.
- The examination will now be conducted in all regional languages including in Tamil.
Science & Technology
- Russia launched a Powerful X-ray space telescope called Spektr-RG from cosmodrome in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in a joint project with Germany.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Indian Public Sector Lender Andhra Bank today launched a Chatbot named 'ABHi'.
- With ABHi, customers will be able to get the information instantaneously 24x7, anytime they want.
Customers can connect and know details from ABHi through website www.andhrabank.in over Mobile/Desktop browser, Facebook Messenger and over voice using Google Assistant. - English mathematician Alan Turing, who helped Britain win the Second World War by cracking Nazi code, will appear on Bank of England's new £50 polymer note by the end of 2021.
- The note features a ticker tape of binary code that depicts his birthday (June 23, 1912).

- The Sangeet Natak Akademi has named 4 eminent personalities in the field of performing arts for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow or Akademi Ratna Awards. They are :

- Sonal Mansingh (Dancer)
- Jatin Goswami (Dancer and Choreographer)
- K. Kalyanasundaram Pillai (Bharatnatyam exponent)
Deaths
- Bangladesh's former president Hussain Muhammad Ershad (91) passed away.
- A former army chief, Ershad took over the state power in a bloodless coup in 1982 and subsequently ran the country for eight years until he was forced to quit in a pro-democracy mass upsurge in 1990.
- Despite being imprisoned subsequently on several charges, Ershad emerged as one of the most powerful political leaders in the 1990s after his Jatiya Party became the country's 3rd biggest political outfit.
New Appointments
- BJP's Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has been appointed as the new Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
- He took over from incumbent Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan who was additionally handling Andhra Pradesh.
- Rajya Sabha MP Anusuiya Uikey was appointed as the new Governor of Chhattisgarh.
- She succeeded Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, who took the additional charge of Chhattisgarh following Balram Das Tandon's death. Harichandan
- New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman Naresh Kumar was transferred and appointed as the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh.
Sports Current Affairs
- Leading fitness brand Reebok announces Bollywood actor and fitness enthusiast, Varun Dhawan, as their Indian Brand Ambassador.
- The brand recently also signed in Katrina Kaif as the new face.
- With Varun, Reebok launches its biggest campaign Sole Fury, that aims to disrupt conventionality and celebrates those who dare to #SplitFrom the ordinary.
