International Current Affairs
- President of Argentina Mauricio Macri arrived in New Delhi today on a 3-day official visit to India.
- During this visit, he will hold delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- The two sides will review progress in bilateral ties and explore new avenues of cooperation.
- Several agreements will be signed after the talks.
- External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has met her Bulgarian counterpart Ekaterina Zaharieva in the capital Sofia.
- The two leaders discussed a range of bilateral issues related to the economy, agriculture, health, tourism and culture.
- Important Points to Note :
- Mrs. Swaraj is on a two-day visit to Bulgaria.
- This is the 1st ever visit by an Indian External Affairs Minister to the Balkan nation.
- Schools in France are set to replace the words 'Mother' and 'Father' with 'Parent 1' and 'Parent 2' on the administrative forms under an amendment to a law passed earlier this week.
National Current Affairs
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today announced ₹9,000 each to farmers with less than 5-acre land, under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme 2019-20.
- This is apart from the ₹6,000 assistance announced by the Centre for farmers holding less than 5-acre land.
- Farmers with more than 5-acre of land will be given ₹10,000 each.
- The Director of National AIDS Research Institute (NARI), Dr Samiran Panda today announced that the Indian Council of Medical Research has proposed to rename the institute.
- HIV infection has come down majorly, hence it is better to use the institute and research team in other fields as well, he added.
- This comes nearly three decades after the institute was established.
MOUs & Agreements
- India and Sweden signed a security protection agreement that will enable the two countries to share classified information with each other.
Deaths
- Swiss actor Bruno Ganz (77), best known for his portrayal of Hitler in the 2004 Oscar-nominated film 'Downfall', has passed awa.
- Ganz featured in the 2008 film 'The Reader' as well as in 'The Manchurian Candidate', which released in 2004.
Science & Technology
- India’s 1st District cooling system will come up in Amravati (capital city of the Andhra Pradesh).
- What is this District cooling system ?
- District cooling systems produce chilled water, steam or hot water at a central plant and then pipe that energy out (either underground or over rooftops) to buildings for air conditioning, space heating and water heating. As a result, these buildings don’t require their own chillers, air conditioners, boilers or furnaces.
- District cooling uses only 50% of primary energy consumption for cooling urban building compared to other cooling systems.
- This process also reduces carbon emissions.

- Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal became the 1st woman flight engineer of IAF (Indian Air Force) which was till now an exclusive man’s club.
- She will serve at IAF’s operational helicopter units and serve in demanding and stressful conditions from the icy heights of the Siachen glacier to the seas of the Andamans.

- In tennis, Belgium's Elise Mertens has claimed the biggest title of her career by beating top seed Simona Halep to win the Qatar Open.
- Note : This is world number 21 Mertens' 1st-ever WTA Premier-level crown, and the 5th title of her career overall.
