- Alliance - an arrangement between two or more people, groups, or countries by which they agree to work together to achieve something
- Opposition - the political parties in a country that are not part of the government
- Fortunes - the things that happen to someone or something and the changing degree to which they are successful
- Ideological - based on or relating to a particular set of ideas or beliefs
- Conflict - angry disagreement between people or groups
- Obstacle - a difficulty or problem that prevents you from achieving something
- Coming together - if people or groups come together, they meet or join in order to do something
- On account of - because of someone or something
- Affinity - a natural understanding and sympathy between people
- Cessation - an end to something
- Rivalry - a situation in which people, teams, businesses etc compete with one another
- Posing a threat - to present a difficult or dangerous situation
- Emerging - just beginning to exist or be noticed
- Principal - main, or most important
- Rival - a person, team, or business that competes with another
- Robust - strong
- Breakaway - consisting of people who have decided to separate from a larger group
- Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
- Bifurcation - to divide into two separate parts
- Marginal - by only a very small amount
- Not only ... but also - used to say that two related things are true or happened, especially when this is surprising or shocking
- Realignment - to change the position of something, especially in relation to the position of something else
- Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
- Forge - to work hard to achieve something
- Federal - a federal country or system is one in which individual states make their own laws, but a national government is responsible for areas such as defence and foreign policy
- Make headway - to make progress with something that you are trying to achieve
- Non-starter - a person or an idea that has no chance of succeeding
- In contrast - used when you are comparing two things or people and saying that the second one is very different from the first
- Catalyst - someone or something that causes something to happen or change
- Uncouple - to separate two things, or to become separate
- Dissolve - if a group or organization dissolves, or if someone dissolves it, it stops existing
- Prematurely - happening too soon or before the usual time
- Wide-ranging - dealing with a large variety of subjects
- Unseat - to remove someone from a position of power, for example by voting

- All is not well - used for saying that a situation or arrangement is not satisfactory
- Consumer - someone who buys and uses goods and services
- Lacklustre - not lively, exciting, or impressive

- Weigh - to have an important effect or influence
- Macroeconomic - relating to the economic system of a whole country or large region
- Plague - something that is very common and harmful
- Undue - not necessary or reasonable
- Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
- Owing to - because of something
- Uptrend - an improvement in the economy, or an increase in business activity
- Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
- Bringing down - to reduce the rate, level, or amount of something
- Hassle - a situation that causes problems for you or that annoys you very much
- Compliance - the practice of obeying a law, rule, or request
