Microsoft founder Bill Gates was named the richest man in the world for the fourth consecutive year according to Forbes’ list of the richest people for the year 2017. He has been the richest person on the planet for 18 out of the last 23 years. According to the magazine's annual rich list, Mr Gates' fortune rose to $86 billion, from $75 billion, followed by investor Warren Buffett, up $14.8 billionto $75.6 billion.

US President Donald Trump has slipped more than 200 spots in the list and ranked 544. Among the top 10 billionaires, a group heavily dominated by Americans, many from the technology sector. There are 183 tech billionaires in all with a combined $1 trillion in wealth.
