International Affairs
  • India and France agree to intensify co-operation on counter terrorism including information and intelligence sharing
    • In a joint statement after bilateral talks between the two countries in Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande referred to their common desire to tackle terrorism and promote security.
  • French aviation company (Aircraft manufacturer) Airbus today announced that it is ready to manufacture in India. 
    • It is going to outsource work worth two billion dollars in next five years.

National Affairs
  • Today (11th April 2015) is National Safe Motherhood Day.
    • This day is observed across India on 11 April to create awareness on proper healthcare and maternity facilities to pregnant and lactating women.
    • This day was launched by the White Ribbon Alliance (WRA), India, a nonpartisan, non-profit and non-governmental membership organization that aims to decrease maternal and newborn death globally
  • Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar‬ announced that the Rafale‬ fighter jets will be inducted in Indian Air Force in a span of 2 years. 
    • The deal was pending for the last 17 years and India has finally broken the ice over it.
    • India yesterday signed the deal with France on buying 36 Rafale fighter jets in flyaway condition.
  • The ‎National Green Tribunal‬ directs Real Estate Sector in the Delhi Region to check air pollution caused by dust emanating from construction sites.
    • A bench headed by NGT‬ Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar ordered an immediate halt to all construction activity in the national capital region that do not follow rules stipulated in the 2010 guidelines of the environment ministry.
  • The first caste census, which will be conducted across the Karnataka State over the next 20 days, got underway today. 
    • Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy flagged off the census in Bengaluru in the presence of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner M. Laxminarayana and Backward Classes Commissioner H. Kantharaj.

  • An asteroid has been named in honour of Malala Yousafzai, the children's rights activist
    who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year.
    • The asteroid's official name is 316201 Malala.
    • The four-kilometre wide object orbits the Sun every 5.5 years between Mars and Jupiter.
    • Note : Malala, 17, won the Nobel Peace Prize last year along with India's Kailash Satyarthi, whose work also involves protecting the interests of young people.
  • A court in the Maldives has sentenced Tholhath Ibrahim, a former defense minister to 10 years in prison on charges of detaining a senior judge.
    • Note : In the same case, former President Mohamed Nasheed  has also been jailed.
  • The former U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, will announce, this Sunday, her candidacy for the presidential nomination race in 2016.

  • Cautioning public against a fraudulent bank account mobile app in its name, the Reserve Bank said that it has not developed any such application.
    • The application, which is doing rounds on WhatsApp, has an RBI logo with the title ‘All Bank Balance Enquiry No’ and has listed several banks with either a mobile number or call centre number.

  • Indian professional tennis player Yuki Bhambri has clinched the 15,000 US Dollar ITF Futures tournament title.
  • Commonwealth Games gold medal winning Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela bas bronze in ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Korea.
    • This achievement made her qualified for next year's Rio Olympic Games.
