Dena Bank PO Online Exam 2017 Postponed

Friends, the Dena Bank Probationary Officers Online Exam 2017 has been postponed. As you know, the Dena Bank has invited online applications from 18th April 2017 to 9th May 2017 for Post Graduate Certificate in Banking and Finance course in Amity University for the year 2017. The online exam for the selection of the candidates supposed to be held on 11th June 2017. But in a recently released notice, the bank has announced the the exam has been postponed due to some administrative reasons. New date will be announced soon.
"The online examination which was supposed to be conducted by Dena Bank through IBPS on 11.06.2017 for admission for the course of Diploma in Banking and Finance through Amity University is postponed due to certain administrative exigencies.

    • The new laws, to be introduced in Parliament, will apply to convicts while they are on the offenders' register.

National Current Affairs
  • Today is Hindi Journalism Day.
    • On this day in the year 1826, the first Hindi newspaper of India called Udant Martand (The Rising Sun) was edited and published. 
    • With this, the Hindi Journalism completed its 187 years in India.
  • Goa is celebrating its 30th Statehood Day today.
    • It was on this day in 1987 that Goa became the 25th state of India.
    • It was a Union Territory along with Daman and Diu from December 1961 onwards when Goa was liberated from the colonial rule.
  • The government is going to bring 14 new categories, including acid attack survivors, under the Disability Act, 2016
    • Currently, it provides benefits to seven categories including blindness, hearing impairment, mental illness and leprosy
    • The new categories which will be added include muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, thalassemia, multiple disabilities (two or more disabilities).

RBI to issue Pink-Green 1 Rupee Notes

In a recent press release, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has confirmed that it is going to release the current notes of One Rupee denomination. The new note will have an overall colour scheme of pink and green on the obverse and reverse, in combination with other colours. The notes, which have already been printed by the Government of India, are legal tender under the Coinage Act, 2011.

  • The Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Harsh Vardhan has launched a new web portal called 'nakshe' to celebrate Survey of India's 250 Anniversary in New Delhi. The portal will offer Topographic maps for free download in a pdf format through 'Aaadhar' enabled user authentication process. The principal map-ping agency of the country The Survey of India' is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year. 
  • Mongolia has launched its first satellite Mongol Sat-I part of its efforts to make use of new technology to diversify its resource-dependent economy. It is 1227 Megahertz satellite. The satellite was launched in partnership with Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS). The Satellite helps with space research, map making and preparing for natural disaster.
  • Indian Navy has successfully tested the land attack version of supersonic cruise missile Brahmos' from Indian Navy's ship Teg on a target on land. BrahMos Missile has been jointly developed by India and Russia and its anti-ship variant has already been inducted into the Nan. A majority of the frontline ships of Indian Navy (the Kolkata, Ranvir and Teg classes of ships) are capable of firing this missile. Land Attack variant of BrahMos Missile provides Indian Naval Ships the capability to precisely neutralize selected targets deep inland, far away from coast, from stand-off ranges at sea. 
  • The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has successfully launched a stadium-sized, heavy-lift Super Pressure Balloon (SPB) from Wanala a scenic spot on New Zealand's South Island. The balloon will float for more than 100 days at 110000 feet across the globe in the Southern Hemisphere's mid-latitude band. The Super Pressure Balloon will detect ultra-high energy cosmic particles from beyond the galaxy as they penetrate the earth's atmosphere.

70th Cannes Film Festival Awards Winners List 2017

The 70th annual Cannes Film Festival was recently held at Cannes, France from 17th to 28th May 2017. The festival was hosted by the Italian actress Monica Bellucci. Ismael's Ghosts, directed by French director Arnaud Desplechin, was the opening film for the festival. The festival's biggest award, Palme d'Or was won by the the Swedish director Ruben Östlund, for his film "The Square" which also served as the closing film of the festival.   • PM Narendra Modi today inaugurated India's longest bridge, the Dhola-Sadiya bridge, in Assam
    • The 9.15-km-long bridge located over the Brahmaputra replaced Mumbai's Bandra-Worli Sea Link as India's longest bridge. 
    • It will reduce Assam-Arunachal Pradesh travel time by four hours, and also boost defence along the border.
    • Note : Modi announced that the bridge will be named after Dr Bhupen Hazarika, a noted playback singer, lyricist, musician, poet, and filmmaker from Assam. 
  • The Ministry of Environment and Forests have come up with new regulations that bans the sale of cattle for slaughter
    • The rules have been notified under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960
    • Note : Slaughter of cows are banned in most parts of the country except parts of the north-east India and Kerala. The new rules will be implemented in the next three months.
  • As the Aadhaar ID for cattle process begins in Gujarat to prevent cow slaughter, a team of technicians in the state has started implanting GPS-enabled microchips in the animal's ears. 
    • The microchips will have details such as the animal's age, breed, milk yield, owner's name, cow's identification number, date of birth, health records, and migration status.

  • India has been ranked third for the third year in a row in a doping violation report published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for 2015, with 117 athletes from the country being punished after testing positive for banned substances. 
    • India followed the Russian Federation (176) and Italy (129) in the chart, the same posi-tion as in the reports of 2013 and 2014. This is the first set of Anti-Doping Rule Violation statistics under the revised WADA Code and third such report in its history since 2013. The worrying sign for India is that the number of dope offenders has been increasing in the last three years. India had 91 and 96 Anti-doping Rule VidatiOnS (ADRVs) in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
  • National Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand's daughter Gayatri Pulleln has bagged both the singles and doubles crown at the Penthangunan Jaya Raya Junior Grand Prix in Jakarta. Gayatri roamed up with Samiya to clinch the 'U-I5 doubles title', with a straight game 21-17, 21-15 win over Indonesian pair of Kelly Larissa and Shelandry Vyola. 
    • Gayatri and Samiya train together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad.
  • Brayan Jimenez, Guatemala 'former football chief has been banned for life over corrup-tion, bribery and other offences, making him the latest former executive thrown out of the sport in disgrace.
    • Jimenez last year pleaded guilty to racketeering and wire fraud conspiracies in a US court after accepting bribes worth several hundred thousand dollars in exchange for media and marketing rights for key matches.

  • Karnataka Bank and SBI Card have launched co-branded credit cards for the customers of Karnataka Bank. Through this alliance Karnataka Bank and SBI Card will launch two variants of the co-branded credit card 'Karnataka Bank Platinum SBI Card' and 'Karnataka Bank SimplySAVE SBI Card'. 
  • A separate 'Enforcement Department' has been set up by the Reserve Bank of India to oversee possible breaches of rules and take punitive actions against those who violate them. It will serve as a centralized wing to deal with banks only for enforcement action. 
    • Note : The department will develop a broad policy for enforcement and initiate action against the regulated entities for violation consistent with such policy. 
  • Ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy, the country's largest bank, State Bank of India has reduced its benchmark lending rate by 0.15% (from 9.25% to 9.1%). 
    • Note : The cut in SBI's base rate was effective from 1st April, 2017. With This reduction, the equated monthly installments, or EMIs for the bank's new as well as existing bor-rowers who have taken housing or car loans at the base rate will cone down by at least 0.15%.

As you know, the organization has invited online applications from 30th March 2017 to 20th April 2017 for filling up of 205  Administrative Officers (Generalists) Scale I for the year 2017. Now it has came out with the Preliminary Exam call letters for the same. SSC MTS Examination Cancelled

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced that the SSC MTS Examination has been cancelled owing to leakage of papers. The orgnization is now going to conduct online exam during September / October 2017. Here is the notice released by Staff Selection Commission regarding the cancellation of SSC MTS Exam.

"The Commission has taken a decision to cancel the Multi-Tasking Staff (Non-Technical) Examination,2016 in the OMR based mode for all 5 days (viz. the examinations already conducted on 30.4.2017 and 14.5.2017, and to be conducted on 28.5.2017, 4.6.2017 and 11.6.2017). The said examination would now be conducted by the Commission afresh in the computer based mode, tentatively during the month of September-October, 2017. The details in this regard would be hosted on the website of the Commission in due course."

    • The purpose of this day is to bring attention to, and increase knowledge of and respect

  • The United States and 6 Gulf countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) have joined hands to curb financing of dreaded terror groups such as Islamic State, Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Haqqani network and Taliban.
    • A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed by the US and six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh.
  • Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have pledged a combined $100 million to a Women Entrepreneurs' Fund proposed by US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump.
    • The fund, which Ivanka first proposed during her Germany trip, will be run by the World Bank to help female entrepreneurs with the capital and networking resources to start businesses.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma-led digital wallet Paytm today launched its Payments Bank operations in Delhi-NCR. With this, there are three payments banks now in India, including Airtel Payments Bank Ltd and India Post Payments Bank Ltd. Paytm received licence from the RBI to open payments bank in 2015 and was scheduled to commence operations around Diwali last year, but got delayed by several months. Here are some important points you should know about Paytm Payments Bank.

Important Points about Paytm Payments Bank :

  • The bank will offer 4 per cent interest per annum on deposits. Rival payments banks Airtel and India Post offer higher interest rates at 7.25 per cent and at 4.5-5.5 per cent respectively.
  • The first one million customers to open an account with Paytm Payments Bank and reach a deposit of Rs 25,000 will get a cashback of Rs 250 instantly.
  • Paytm Payments Bank accounts will initially be available on an invite-only basis. In the first phase, the company will roll out its beta banking app for its employees and associates.
