International Affairs
- The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery observed today.
- The day marks the date of the adoption, by the General Assembly, of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.
- The focus of this day is on eradicating contemporary forms of slavery, such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labour, forced marriage, and the forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.

National Affairs
- The Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated its 49th Raising day today.
- The force was raised on December 1, in 1965.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Nagaland, today announced a package of 28 thousand crore for the establishment of 14 new railway lines in the Northeast.
- He also sanctions five thousand crore rupees to provide 2G mobile coverage in the area.
- Parliament passed the Indian Institutes of Information Technology, IIITs Bill, 2014.
- The legislation enables the four IIITs at Allahabad, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Kancheepuram to be institutes of national importance.
- Piloting the Bill, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani assured the House that these institutions will be developed adhering to the global standards.
- There will be reservations for SCs, STs & Differently Abled persons in admission and recruitment.
- These institutions will develop new knowledge in Information Technology, the Minister added.
- Government likely to introduce Goods Services Tax Bill in current session of Parliament says Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
- Historic Mairie building, old city hall of Puducherry collapsed due to incessant rains.
