International Current Affairs
  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Beijing today on a key 3-day visit.
    • During this visit, he will hold talks with the Chinese leadership.  
    • A host of issues is sought to be discussed, including finalisation of arrangements for President Xi Jinping's visit to India later this year for the second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
    • 4 Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) were expected to be signed during Jaishankar's visit.
  • China today told the UK to stay out of its internal affairs, saying, "Hong Kong was no longer a British colony and the UK has no supervisory rights." 
  • The 22nd National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) 2019 was recently held at Shillong (Meghalaya) with the adoption of ‘Shillong Declaration’ on e-Governance.
    • This conference was organized by Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DAPRG), Ministry of Personnel and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with Government of Meghalaya.
    • Theme of the Conference : “Digital India: Success to Excellence”. 
National Current Affairs
  • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu launched the Jharkhand government's 'Mukhya Mantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana'.
    • Under this scheme, money will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of farmers in the state. 
    • Under the scheme, beneficiaries having farm land of less than one acre to five acres, will get 5,000 to 25,000 rupees in their bank accounts.
  • To spread awareness about job opportunities, the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministery launched e-version of Rozgar Samachar
    • This e-Journal is expected to meet emerging challenge of young readers switching to electronic modes of communication
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved US $200 million loan for Road Infrastructure Improving project in Maharashtra’s 34 districts for better connecting rural areas with markets and services.  
    • The proceeds of loan from ADB will be used for upgrading roads in rural areas of these districts to all-weather standards for boosting links between local residents and economic centres across the state.

Awards & Honors
  • NITI Aayog launched 4th edition of Women Transforming India (WTI) Awards
    • The theme for this year’s award is ‘Women and Entrepreneurship’, in continuation of the theme for WTI Awards 2018. 
    • WhatsApp has collaborated with NITI Aayog for WTI Awards 2019 and will be providing support amounting to US $100,000 to award winners.
    • Nominations for the awards were be opened immediately after the launch
  • With aim to honour outstanding young 1st generation entrepreneurs as well as ecosystem builders for their exceptional contribution in entrepreneurship development, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) announced 4th edition of National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019
    • They will reward the most innovative, inspiring and accomplished micro entrepreneurs to scale up their business.
    • There are a total of 45 specially designed awards to be bestowed – 39 Enterprise Awards and 6 Awards for Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Builders.
Books & Authors
  • Home Minister Amit Shah today released a book titled “Listening, Learning & Leading” chronicling the two years in office by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
    • The book was released in Chennai at a function organised by Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Science & Technology
  • Chinese telecom giant Huawei launched its own operating system called HarmonyOS or HongMeng in Chinese. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • In Badminton, reigning national champion, Sourabh Verma clinched the Men's Singles title in the Hyderabad Open by defeating Singapore's Loh Kean Yew.
  • Opener Chris Gayle has became the 1st West Indies cricketer to feature in 300 ODIs, achieving the feat in the second ODI against India today. 
  • In Badminton, Indian junior shuttlers won 6 medals at the Bulgarian Junior International Championships which concluded in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria today. 
    • The medals comprised of 3 Gold, a Silver and 2 bronze.  
    • The gold medals were won by Samiya Imad Faruqui in women's singles, the duo of Edvin Joy and Shruti Mishra in Mixed Doubles and pair of Tanisha Crasto and Aditi Bhatt in women's doubles.
