- Today (15th July) is World Youth Skills Day.
- This day was first observed by the United Nations General Assembly on 15th July 2015.
- Aim of this day : To create awareness about the importance of investing in youth skills development.
- Theme of World Youth Skills Day 2019 : ‘Learning to learn for life and work’
- Note : Short video platform Tik Tok has partnered with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to support skill development in India and celebrate World Youth Skills Day 2019.
National Current Affairs
- Meghalaya became 1st state in India to ensure conservation of water and have its own State Water Policy.
- Amid water crisis in country, this draft water policy of Meghalaya would work towards addressing water issues, conservation, and protection of water sources in state.
- The Lok Sabha today passed the National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
- This bill gives powers to NIA to probe terror attacks targeting Indians and Indian interests abroad.
- The government today introduced the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha.
- With this bill, Commercial surrogacy will soon be banned and only close relatives will be permitted to act as surrogates to infertile couples for "ethical altruistic" reasons.
- This bill also provides for constitution of surrogacy boards at national and state levels, as well as that the intending couples should not abandon such a child under any condition.
- The Golden Jubilee Edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will be held from 20-28 November 2019 in Panaji, Goa.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has slapped a penalty of Rs 7 crore on India's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) for non-compliance with norms related to NPA identification and fraud risk management, among others.
- The penalty has been imposed on the bank for non-compliance of income recognition and asset classification (IRAC) norms, code of conduct for opening and operating current accounts and reporting of data on Central Repository of Information on Large Credits (CRILC), and fraud risk management and classification and reporting of frauds.
- In a first ever movement of its kind, IWAI (Inland Waterways Authority of India) ship carrying Bhutanese cargo was flagged off from Dhubri (Assam) to Narayanganj (Bangladesh) over Brahmaputra River and the Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route.
- The cargo carrying stone from Bhutan to be delivered in Bangladesh was digitally flagged-off by Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemical & Fertilizers.
Science & Technology
- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) called off the launch of India's second Moon mission 'Chandrayaan 2' for today "as a measure of abundant precaution" after a technical snag was observed in launch vehicle system at T-56 minute.
- The US Army will start testing Robotic Combat vehicles in 2020 which soldiers will control from the back of modified Bradley Fighting Vehicles.
- The upgraded Bradleys, called Mission Enabler Technologies-Demonstrators (MET-Ds), have a remote turret for 25 mm main gun, 360-degree cameras and crew stations with touchscreens.
Awards & Honors
- Australian University La Trobe will award Bollywood Actor Shah Rukh Khan with an Honorary Doctorate at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 9.
- It's the 1st Australian University to award Khan with an Honorary Doctor of Letters.

- Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat has been appointed as the new Governor of Gujarat.
- Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Kalraj Mishra appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.

- England won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 for the 1st time due to hitting more boundaries after tied scores in World Cup history's first-ever Super Over forced a boundary count-back.
- The match went into Super Over wherein both the teams scored 15 each after hitting 241 runs apiece in their respective 50 overs.
- Note : England scored 26 boundaries while New Zealand hit 17.
