International Current Affairs
- India has rejected attempts by the United States and other countries to bring in "differentiation" to deny policy space to India and other developing countries in multilateral trade pacts.
- India said it "cannot agree to any approach which undermines the centrality of development dimension in the WTO."
- South Africa and the Africa-Caribbean-Pacific coalition supported India's position.
- Lt Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal inaugurated the Sahara Naval Hostel for the ‘Veer Naris’ at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, today.
- The unique project steered by the Indian Navy for ‘Naval Veer Naris’ has been built in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership with National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).
- The hostel addresses a long term need felt towards rehabilitation of Naval ‘Veer Naris’ and provide them a safe and secure environment which will help them rebuild their lives.
- The Sahara Hostel comprises compact suites equipped with all necessary amenities for dignified living, along with a common Dining Hall and a Community Hall.
- More than 25 states and Union Territories face environmental compensation of ₹1 crore each for not submitting action plans on systematic disposal of plastic waste to the Central Pollution Control Board.
- The National Green Tribunal had ordered them to submit action plans by April 30, failing which they would have to pay a compensation at the rate of ₹1 crore/month.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Facebook is finalising plans to launch its cryptocurrency, internally named 'GlobalCoin', in about a dozen countries next year.
- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly met Bank of England governor Mark Carney to discuss opportunities and risks involved in launching a cryptocurrency.
- No-frills airline SpiceJet announced the induction of a Boeing 737, taking its fleet size to 100 aircraft.
- With this, SpiceJet became the 4th domestic airline to achieve the feat after national carrier Air India, now defunct Jet Airways and rival IndiGo.
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired the Akash-1S surface to air defence missile system.
- This is the 2nd successful test of the missile in last two days.
- This is a new version of the missile fitted with an indigenous seeker.
- Developed by the DRDO, the Akash missile system has the capability to neutralise aerial targets such as fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles as well as ballistic missiles.

- British-Sri Lankan writer Guy Gunaratne received the prestigious £30,000 Swansea University International Dylan Thomas Prize 2019.
- He won the award for his debut novel titled ‘In Our Mad and Furious City’.
- Note : He was also longlisted for the 2018 Man Booker prize and won this year’s Jhalak prize for the novel.
- Patanjali Ayurved Limited's Managing Director and a close aide of Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna has received the 'UNSDG 10 Most Influential People in Healthcare Award' on behalf of Patanjali Group of Institutions.

New Appointments
- Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) president Prem Singh Tamang today took oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim.
- 51 year old Tamang, who took the oath in Nepali, was administered the oath by Governor Ganga Prasad at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.
- Anuj Sharma, who is currently posted as ADG and IGP Operation, has been appointed as Kolkata's Commissioner of Police again.
- Sharma will immediately take charge from Rajesh Kumar.
- Note : Last month, the Election Commission had directed the Chief Secretary of West Bengal to appoint Kumar, the then ADG Pollution Control Board, as the commissioner.
- Pema Khandu will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on May 29.
- This comes after Arunachal Pradesh BJP MLAs today unanimously selected Pema Khandu as the leader of BJP Legislature Party.
- BJP had won 41 seats in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.
Sports Current Affairs
- Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton extended his lead at the top of the Formula One championship table after winning the Monaco Grand Prix.
- India's Apurvi Chandela won her 2nd International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Gold medal this year in Germany.
- Chandela, who beat China's Wang Luyao in the 10-metre Air Rifle event, had earlier registered a world record score at ISSF World Cup in New Delhi in February.
- Note : This was Apurvi's career's fourth ISSF medal.
