  • Today (29th November) is International day of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
    • On this day, in 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine (resolution 181 (II))

National Current Affairs
  • Himachal Pradesh today became the 1st Indian state to launch a single emergency number "112"
    • This number will connect to Police (100), Fire (101), Health (108) and Women helplines (1090)  through an Emergency Response Centre (ERC) in the state. 
  • The Maharashtra assembly has unanimously approved 16% reservation for the Maratha community in jobs and educational institutes. 
    • Following this, the total reservation in the state for OBC, SC/ST groups, other minor social groups, and the Marathas will be 68%
  • The Supreme Court has allowed candidates aged above 25 to take National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019
    • The National Testing Agency (NTA) is going to conduct the NEET 2019 in the month of May.
Science & Technology
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today successfully launched India's Hyperspectral Imaging Satellite (HySIS) along with 30 Micro and Nanosatellites of eight other countries after a 16-hour countdown. 
    • HySIS will help in monitoring pollution from industries.
    • It will also have other applications in agriculture, forestry, geology, coastal zone study and inland water studies.

Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The government on today released revised GDP data for the 7 years from 2004-05 to 2011-12 under a new base year. 
    • The new back series data showed growth at 8.5% in 2010-11 compared to the estimate of 10.3% under the old series. 
    • Congress leader and ex-Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the revised GDP numbers are "worse than a bad joke".
  • In order to simplify the GST calculations for tax payers, Japanese electronics company ‘CASIO’ has launched world’s first Goods and Services Tax (GST) calculator in India.
    • The company has two variants of GST calculators MJ-120GST and MJ-12GST in the Indian market. 
New Appointments
  • The 1978-batch Indian Postal Service officer Arvind Saxena has been appointed as the new Chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
    • He has been working as acting head of the UPSC since June 20. He joined the organization as a Member on May 8, 2015.
  • Union Government has appointed Anil Manibhai Naik as Chairman of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)
    • He is currently Group Chairman of engineering conglomerate Larsen and Toubro (L&T). 
    • He was honored with Padma Bhushan, India’s 3rd highest civilian award in 2009 for his outstanding contribution to economic growth of the country.
