  • US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un are going to meet in Singapore next month to discuss bilateral issues.
  • India is going to host 15th Asia Media Summit (AMS-2018) in New Delhi from 10th to 12th May 2018. 
    • The summit is being organised by Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in collaboration with its partners and international organisations.
    • Theme of AMS 2018 : “Telling our Stories- Asia and More”. 
    • Aim of AMS 2018 : To provide unique opportunity for broadcasters in Asia to share their thoughts on broadcasting and information.

  • Border Road Organisation's (BRO) 58th raising day today.
    • Formed on May 7, 1960, the BRO maintains road networks in the country, helps in meeting the strategic needs of the armed forces and plays an important role in socio economic development through its large scale contribution to infrastructure development.

  • Pointing out that live-in relationships are recognised, the Supreme Court today observed that Adult couples have a right to live together without marriage
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said that, India's projected GDP growth of over 7 percent for the current fiscal is amazingly fast and if this momentum is maintained, the size of the economy can double within a decade.
    • According to the ADB Chief Economist Yasuyuki Sawada, India should not worry about not achieving 8 per cent growth but focus on increasing domestic demand by reducing the income inequality.
  • India's total export of finished steel increased by 16 point 7 percent to 9 point 6 million tonnes in 2017-18. 
    • The country had exported 8.2 million tonnes finished steel during 2016-17 fiscal,.
  • The Economic Affairs Secretary SC Garg has announced that the printing of ₹500 notes has been ramped-up to about ₹3,000 crore a day to meet the extra demand. 
Deaths
  • Filmmaker Arjun Hingorani (92), who directed Dharmendra's debut film 'Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere' in 1960, has passed away.
    • Hingorani directed India's first Sindhi film titled 'Abana' in the year 1958.
New Appointments
  • Vladimir Putin was today sworn-in as the President of Russia for the 4th time, renewing another six-year term in office.
    • Putin, who has ruled the country as either President or Prime Minister since 1999, won the presidential elections in March with over 76% of the votes.
