India's Kidambi Srikanth to be World No. 1

Padma Shri awardee Indian badminton player Kidambi Srikanth is going to become the No. 1 player in the world this Thursday when the Badminton World Federation (BWF) releases it's new rankings. With this, he will become the 1st Indian Male Shuttler to achieve this feat and will join Saina Nehwal, who became the first Indian woman to become world No. 1. In March 2015.

Srikanth today played a crucial role in helping India win Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018. He will move to the the top of rankings with 76,895 points. He will replace the current No. 1 Viktor Axelsen, who is going to lose 1660 points.

Srikanth won Four Super Series titles - Indonesia, Australia, Denmark, France - in 2017 and became only the 4th shuttler in the world to achieve this feat. He had secured the No.2 ranking on November 2, 2017

Note : Prior to the computerised ranking system, Prakash Padukone was regarded as world No.1 after he won three top tournaments in 1980.
