International Current Affairs
  • Today (6th April) is International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
    • This day was initiated by the United Nations (UN), to recognize the power of sport in promoting peace and erasing cultural barriers worldwide.
    • This day promotes healthy lifestyles and emphasizes the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) focus on giving as many people as possible access to sport.
  • The 9th India-Japan-US trilateral meeting was successfully concluded at New Delhi.
    • This meeting was represented by senior diplomats of the three countries. 
    • All the three countries agreed to continue to collaborate to promote increased connectivity in Indo-Pacific. 
    • They also agreed to remain engaged and strengthen cooperation in support for free, open, prosperous, peaceful and inclusive Indo-Pacific region through partnership with countries in region. 
National Current Affairs
  • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has issued a circular directing all states and union territories to avoid using the words 'Dalit' and 'Harijan' in official communications.
    • The term 'Scheduled Caste' should be used for denoting people belonging to the category.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today announced that it is looking at the possibility of introducing a central bank-backed Digital Currency
    • An inter-departmental group has been constituted to study and provide "guidance on the desirability and feasibility to introduce a central bank digital currency".
  • The RBI has said that any entity regulated by it like banks shall be barred from providing services to any individual or business dealing in Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies
    • The central bank has given 3 months to banks to exit their relationship with such entities. 
  • The RBI has directed all payment system operators in India to store data within the country to ensure the security of users' information.
    • The operators have been given 6 months' time to comply with the directive of the central bank.
  • Despite the sanctions imposed by the US on defence trade with Russia, India has decided to continue negotiations with Russia to acquire a missile defence system at a cost of over ₹30,000 crore. 
  • According to a report released by cybersecurity firm Symantec, India is the 9th most affected country in the world in cryptojacking activities (2nd in Asia-Pacific Japan region).

  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has constituted 5-member committee to examine Taxation aspects related to High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) who are migrating abroad to other jurisdictions. 
    • Head of this Committee : Pragya Sahay Saksena
Books & Authors
  • The book 'Mann Ki Baat: A Social Revolution on Radio' which was released last year, is in news due to controversies. 
    • Rajesh Jain, attributed as the author of this book has denied he wrote the book.
    • The book was released in the presence of then President, Pranab Mukherjee. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • India's youngest weightlifter at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Deepak Lather (18-years) has won India a Bronze medal in the 69-kg men's category today.
  • Indian weightlifter Sanjita Chanu won her 2nd consecutive Commonwealth Games Gold medal after lifting a total of 192 kg in the women's 53 kg category  today. 
    • She had already won the 1st Gold medal to India in the women's 48 kg category.
    • Note : India have won two gold, one silver and one bronze medals till now.
