Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Cauvery again"
  • Blame - to say or think that someone or something is responsible for an accident, problem, or bad situation
  • Dispute - a serious disagreement, especially one between groups of people that lasts for a long time
  • Litigation - use of the legal system to settle a disagreement
  • Verdict - an official judgment made in a court
  • Contempt - behaviour that is illegal because it does not obey or respect the rules of a law court
  • Proceedings - the actions taken, usually in court, to settle a legal matter
  • Comply - to obey a rule or law, or to do what someone asks you to do
  • Perplexing - confusing
  • Obligation - something that you must do for legal or moral reasons
  • Divergence - a difference in the way that two or more things develop from the same thing
  • Envisage - to have something as a plan or an intention
  • Tribunal - a special law court organized to judge a particular case
  • Discretion - careful and sensitive behaviour that does not upset or offend people
  • Oversee - to watch something in order to check that it works or happens in the way that it should
  • Observe - to make a written or spoken comment about someone or something
  • Deprived - not having the things that are essential for a comfortable life
  • Nomenclature - a system for naming things
  • Expedient - used for describing an action that produces an immediate result or solution to a problem, even though it may not be fair or honest
  • Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful
  • Unwavering - strong and steady despite opposition or other problems

  • Alliance - an arrangement between two or more people, groups, or countries by which they agree to work together to achieve something
  • Drubbing - a defeat in which someone loses very easily
  • Enormous - very large in size or quantity
  • Uncertainty - a nervous feeling that you have because you think bad things might happen
  • Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
  • Marathon -  an activity that takes a long time to complete and needs a lot of energy and determination
  • Bubble over - to be very excited and enthusiastic
  • Outdid - to be better than someone else at doing something
  • Debacle - something that fails completely in an embarrassing way
  • Endorse - to express support for someone or something, especially in public
  • Imminent - likely or certain to happen very soon
  • Avert - to prevent something bad or harmful from happening
  • Reshuffle - the process of changing the jobs or responsibilities of the people in a particular group or organization
  • Cosmetic changes - cosmetic changes only affect the appearance of something instead of its basic structure
  • Cement - something that helps to make a relationship, idea etc stronger
  • Amid - if something happens amid particular feelings or events, it happens while people have these feelings or while these events are happening
  • Tussle - a disagreement between two people who are both trying to get or to achieve something
  • Averse - to dislike or not enjoy something
  • Tactical - a tactical action is one that you do as part of a plan for achieving what you want
  • Regrouping - to prepare to make a new attempt to achieve something after having failed or been stopped
  • Minority - a small number of people or things that are part of a larger group but different in some way from most of the group
  • Abstain - to deliberately avoid doing something
  • Negotiation - the process of discussing something with someone in order to reach an agreement with them, or the discussions themselves
  • Oust - to remove someone from a position of power, especially in order to take that position
  • Motion - a formal proposal that people discuss and then vote on in a meeting or debate
  • Potentially - possibly true in the future, but not true now
  • Set off - to cause something to operate, especially by accident
  • Consequence - a result or effect of something
  • Dissolve - if a group or organization dissolves, or if someone dissolves it, it stops existing
  • Mandate - the authority of an elected government or official to do the things that they promised to do before an election
  • Credibility - qualities that someone has that make people believe or trust them
  • Crisis - an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Constituency - a division of a country that elects a representative to a parliament
  • Tenure - the period of time during which someone has an important job or is an elected official
  • Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Vast - extremely large
  • Resist - to stop yourself from doing something
  • Myopic - not thinking about what the results of your actions will be
  • Manoeuvre - an action or movement that you need care or skill to do
  • Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
  • In the first place - used for stating the most basic reason for something
