Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Mission impossible: On simultaneous elections"
- Mission impossible - an extremely dangerous or difficult mission
- Simultaneous - happening or done at the same time
- Proposal - a plan or suggestion, especially a formal one that a group has to consider
- Surmise - to guess that something is true, when you do not have enough information to prove that it is true
- Back - to give support to someone or something
- Candidature - the fact that someone is a candidate in an election
- Academician - a member of an academy that encourages interest and development in a particular subject
- Stakeholder - someone who has an interest in the success of a plan, system, or organization

- Viewpoint - a way of considering something
- Summary - a short account of something that gives only the most important information and not all the details
- Draft - not in a final form and likely to be changed
- Amendment - a change made to a law or agreement
- Put together - to produce or organize something using many different things
- Constructive - intended to be useful or helpful
- Premature - happening too soon or before the usual time
- Dissolution - the process of officially ending the existence of a group or organization
- Entail - if a situation or action entails a particular thing, it involves having or doing that thing
- Waiver - an official statement or document that says a right, claim, or law can be officially ignored or given up
- Defection - to leave a country, political party, or organization and go to another one
- Disqualification - a situation in which someone is not allowed to take part in something because they have committed an offence or have done something that is not allowed by the rules
- Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
- In principle - used for saying that something is possible in theory, although it has not yet been tried
- Expenditure - money spent by a government, organization, or person
- Flip side - the negative aspects of an idea, plan, or situation
- Arbitrarily - not based on any particular plan, or not done for any particular reason
- Curtail - to stop something before it is finished, or to reduce or limit something
- In line with - similar to someone or something
- Due date - the date on which something is planned or expected to happen
- Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful
- Federalism - the system of giving power to a central authority
- Democracy - a system of government in which people vote in elections to choose the people who will govern them
- Proximity - how near something is to another thing
- Brought down - to cause a government or politician to lose power
- Collapse - to suddenly fail or stop existing
- Mid-term - happening in the middle part of a government’s time in power

- Precariously - in a dangerous state because of not being safe
- Succour - to help someone
- Fleeing - to escape from a dangerous situation or place very quickly
- Confront - to deal with a difficult situation
- Conducive - creating a situation that helps something to happen
- Dignified - controlled, serious, and calm, and therefore deserving respect
- Sustainable - capable of continuing for a long time at the same level
- Logistical arrangements - the practical arrangements that are necessary in order to organize something successfully, especially something involving a lot of people or equipment
- Crucial - something that is crucial is extremely important because it has a major effect on the result of something
- Ethnic - relating to a group of people who have the same culture and traditions
- Implication - a possible effect or result
- Inhabitant - a person or animal that lives in a particular place
- Cleansing - to get rid of someone or something
- Plaudits - praise
- Transition - the process of changing from one situation, form, or state to another
- Ancestry - the people related to you who lived a long time ago
- Yield - to produce something useful such as information or evidence
