International Current Affairs
  • The United States along with the United Kingdom and France, has launched air strikes in Syria.
    • This is in response to the chemical attack that killed dozens of people last week. 
  • China today conducted its Largest Naval Parade in history, with more than 10,000 personnel along with 48 vessels and 76 aircraft taking part in the country's apparent show of force. 
    • Note : It was the 1st naval parade held in the South China Sea
National Current Affairs
  • On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, PM Narendra Modi today launched the 1st phase of the government's ambitious Ayushman Bharat healthcare programme by inaugurating its first wellness centre in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur. 
    • The programme is aimed at creating a network of 1.5 lakh health and wellness centres at an estimated cost of ₹1200 crore.
  • A month after Uttar Pradesh, the Bihar government has also announced its decision to introduce 'Ramji' as the middle name to BR Ambedkar in government and court records. 
    • The decision came on Ambedkar's 127th birth anniversary today. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 10th Defence Expo (DefExpo 2018) in Chennai at Tiruvidanthal, in Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu.
    • For the first time India’s Defence manufacturing capabilities were showcased to the world in this expo. 
    • Theme of DefExpo 2018 :  “India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub”.
New Appointments
  • Former Himachal Pradesh Governor Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje was elected as the International President of the Vishva Hindu Parishad today. 
    • Note : VHP held elections for selecting its International President for the first time in 52 years.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today tightened reporting norms for the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) under which an individual can transfer up to USD 2,50,000 abroad in a year.
    • The LRS transactions are currently permitted by banks based on the declaration made by the remitter. 
    • Now banks will be required to upload daily transaction-wise information undertaken by them under LRS.
  • The Asian Development Outlook 2018 released by Asian Development Bank (ADB) has projected India’s economic growth to 7.3% in 2018-19 fiscal and further to 7.6% in 2019-20 fiscal.
    • Note : The ADB’s growth projection is in line with that of rating agency Fitch, but is lower than Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) forecast of 7.4%.
  • The US Treasury Department has added India to a "monitoring list" of countries with potentially questionable foreign exchange policies, along with China, Germany and three other nations.
    • The countries will remain on the list for two report cycles "to help ensure that any improvement in performance versus the criteria is durable and is not due to temporary factors".
  • The CBI has registered a case against former UCO Bank CMD Arun Kaul over a ₹621-crore fraud.
    • It was alleged that Kaul and others entered into criminal conspiracy and defrauded UCO Bank of ₹621 crore by diverting and siphoning off the bank loans. 
  • The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have approved $140 million loan for project aimed at improving rural roads (connectivity) in Madhya Pradesh
Deaths
  • Czech American film director Miloš Forman (86), known for directing the Oscar-winning film 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' passed away.
    • Note : Forman also won the Best Director Oscar for his film 'Amadeus' in 1985.

  • The Union Government has constituted 13-Member Task Force to prepare road map and fast-track implementation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology or drones in the country. 
    • Head of this Committee : Jayant Sinha [Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation']
Sports Current Affairs
  • Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist MC Mary Kom has become the 1st  Indian woman boxer to win a Gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018. 
  • Manika Batra has become the 1st-ever Indian woman to bag Gold in the women's table tennis singles' event in Commonwealth Games history. 
  • India clinched the Silver in the Squash mixed doubles event (Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Saurav Ghosal) for the 1st time in the history of Commonwealth Games.  
  • Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sakshi Malik won a Bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, beating New Zealand's Tayla Ford in the women's freestyle 62 kg event today. 
    • This is Sakshi's second medal at the CWG, after winning a silver in the 2014 Games. 
  • Neeraj Chopra has become the 1st-ever Indian to win Gold in javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games. 
  • Manish Kaushik has become the 1st Indian boxer to win Silver medal in the Men's lightweight category (60kg) at the Commonwealth Games. .
  • Australian batsman Aaron Finch has become the 1st-ever player to represent seven teams in the IPL, after taking the field for Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday. 
    • Before Kings XI Punjab, Finch had played for Rajasthan Royals (2010), Delhi Daredevils (2011-2012), Pune Warriors India (2013), SunRisers Hyderabad (2014), Mumbai Indians (2015) and Gujarat Lions (2016-2017).
