Four SBI managing directors, Rajnish Kumar, PK Gupta, B Sriram and Dinesh Kumar Khar, were interviewed by the Banks Board Bureau for the top position.

Kumar is going to replace Arundhati Bhattacharya whose term as the Chairman of SBI comes to an end this week. Bhattacharya became the first woman chairperson of SBI in 2013. She was given a year's extension in October last year to ensure continuity as the SBI was then in the process of absorbing five associate banks.

Kumar will take over the position of SBI's Chairman for three years starting from 7th October 2017.
