  • Inquiry - an official examination of a crime, accident, problem etc, in order to get information or the truth
  • Probe - an attempt to find out the truth about an issue, problem, or accident
  • Set piece - an impressive part of a play, film, book
  • Circumstance - a fact or condition that affects a situation
  • Former - used for describing someone or something that had a particular job, title, status etc in the past, but not now
  • Put forward - to offer an idea, opinion, reason etc, especially so that people can discuss it and make a decision
  • Faction - a small group within a larger group, consisting of people with different opinions from the rest
  • Merger - the process of combining two companies or organizations to form a bigger one
  • Memorial - a structure built to remind people of a famous person or event

  • Acceding -  to do what someone wants or agree with what they say

  • Inheritor - a person who has been given something by someone who is dead
  • Legacy - money or property that you receive from someone after they die
  • Yield - to make a profit
  • Dividend - a share of the profits of a company / organization
  • Shortcoming - a fault or problem that makes someone or something less effective
  • Administering - to give someone a drug or medical treatment
  • Opted for - to make a choice or decision from a range of possibilities
  • Scenario - a situation that could possibly happen
  • Sacrifice - to give up something that is valuable to you in order to help another person

  • Horror - a very strong feeling of shock, fear or disgust caused by something extremely unpleasant
  • Vehicular - relating to vehicles
  • Casualty - someone who is injured or killed in an accident or military action
  • Panic - a sudden strong feeling of fear or worry that makes you unable to think clearly or calmly
  • Plough into someone / something - to crash into someone or something with force
  • Pedestrian - someone who is walking, especially in a town or city, instead of driving or riding
  • Injured - hurt in an accident or attack

  • Agenda - a plan or aim that is kept secret
  • Erosion - the gradual reduction or destruction of something important
  • Beefed up - to increase or improve something
  • Multitude - a large crowd of people
  • Fumbling - to do something awkwardly
  • Paradigm - a typical example or model of something
  • Low-tech - low-tech equipment is simple and usually old-fashioned
  • Perhaps - used for saying that you are not certain about something, or that something may or may not be true

  • Foil -  to prevent someone from doing something that they are trying to do
  • Conspiracy - a secret plan by a group of people to do something bad or illegal, especially in politics
  • Not to mention - used for adding a comment that emphasizes the main idea of what you have already said
  • Notwithstanding - despite something
  • Unenviable - difficult
  • Evolving - to gradually develop
  • Tactic - a planned way of doing something
  • Dispersed - if a crowd of people disperses, or if someone disperses it, the people separate and go in different directions
  • Determined - not willing to let anything prevent you from doing what you have decided to do
