Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Coping with summer"

  • Coping - to deal successfully with a difficult situation
  • Heatwave - a period of time such as a few weeks when the weather is much hotter than usual
  • Frequent - happening often
  • Torrid - extremely hot
  • Soar - to rise very quickly to a high level
  • Consensus - a generally accepted opinion or decision among a group of people
  • Impact - an effect, or an influence
  • Intensify - to become greater, more serious, or more extreme
  • Toll - the total number of people who have been killed or hurt
  • Action plan - a detailed set of instructions to follow in order to solve a problem or achieve something
  • Disaster - (an event that results in) great harm, damage, or death, or serious difficulty
  • Meteorological - related to the scientific study of weather
  • Distress - a situation in which you are suffering or are in great danger and therefore in urgent need of help
  • Crisis - an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Crippling - to cause serious damage to someone or something
  • Context - the general situation in which something happens, which helps to explain it
  • Disruption - a situation in which something cannot continue because of a problem
  • Dehydration - a drop below normal levels of water in the body
  • Heat cramp - sudden severe pain in heart
  • Elderly - old people
  • Viscosity - the thick and sticky quality of a liquid
  • Thrombosis - a serious medical condition in which your blood gets thicker and forms a clot that stops the blood flowing normally
  • Forecasting - the job or activity of judging what is likely to happen in the future, based on the information you have now
  • Protocol - the system of rules
  • Threshold - a limit at which an arrangement changes
  • Precautionary - done or used for protection against possible harm or trouble
  • Vulnerable - able to be easily physically, emotionally, or mentally hurt, influenced, or attacked
  • Pursuing - to follow a course of activity
  • Vocation - a job that you do
  • For instance - for example
  • Symptom - a sign of a larger problem
  • Urban - relating to towns and cities, or happening there
  • Intervention - the act or fact of becoming involved intentionally in a difficult situation
  • Rescheduling - the changing of the time at which something will happen
  • Moisture - a liquid such as water in the form of very small drops, either in the air, in a substance, or on a surface
  • Albedo - the fraction of solar energy (shortwave radiation) reflected from the Earth back into space
  • Integral -  necessary and important
  • Vernacular - in architecture, a local style in which ordinary houses are built
  • Efficacy - effectiveness in producing the result that you intended

  • Enforcement - the process of making sure that people obey something such as a law or rule

  • Clientele - all the customers of a business when they are considered as a group

  • Provocation - an action or statement that is intended to make someone angry

  • Inevitably - used for saying that something is certain to happen

  • Address - to deal with a matter or problem
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Prohibition - the act of officially not allowing something
  • Binge-drinking - the activity of drinking too much alcohol on one occasion
  • Hazard - something that is dangerous and likely to cause damage
  • Counterproductive - having an effect that is opposite to the one intended or wanted
  • Outcome - a result or effect of an action, situation, etc
