International Current Affairs
  • Today (27th March) is World Theatre Day (WTD)
    • This day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute.
  • Greek Migration Minister Ioannis Mouzalas has today announced that the country would cease taking back refugees under the Dublin regulation as its limited capacities to host people are already on the brink of collapse.
    • The regulation was put on hold in 2011 over problems in the country's asylum system.
  • A court in Yemen's capital Sanaa, controlled by the Houthi rebels, has sentenced the country's President Mansour Hadi and six other top government officials to death for high treason. 
    • The court found Hadi guilty of instigating attacks by Saudi Arabia to suppress the rebels opposing him.
National Current Affairs
  • With an average age of 29, India will be world's youngest country by 2020, India's envoy to Sri Lanka, Taranjith Singh Sandhu, announced today. 
  • The Supreme Court today said that the Aadhaar card can't be made mandatory by the government for extending the benefits of its welfare schemes to the people. 
    • The top court, however, also said that the government cannot be stopped from using Aadhaar in other schemes like the opening of bank accounts.
  • The government is set to change the definition of blindness to bring it in line with the World Health Organisation criteria.
    • This will reduce the number of blind persons by 4 million in India.
    • With this India can achieve the Vision 2020 goal of reducing the prevalence of blindness to 0.3% of population.

  • Actor Anupam Kher was honoured with the Kala Ratan Award from Panjab University with the Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari giving away the award today.
Banking & Economic Affairs
  • HDFC Bank's Managing Director Aditya Puri has featured on the list of world's 30 best CEOs, published by American financial magazine Barron's. 
    • Note : The list also features Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, among others.
  • A visiting team of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today suggested that it would allow Nepali nationals to exchange banned Indian currency of up to ₹4,500 per person.
    • Further, the delegation has proposed a one-week window to complete the exchange facilities. 
    • India had earlier allowed carrying of ₹25,000 per person for citizens of Nepal.
  • American retail chain Walmart is going to open 50 new stores in India over the next three to four years, following which it may create 40,000 jobs in India.
    • Note : Half of these stores will open in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
  • Union Minister Jayant Sinha today announced that Surat Airport will soon become an international airport.
MOUs & Agreements
  • India and World Bank have singed Signs Financing Agreement for IDA credit of $100 million for the “Uttarakhand Health Systems Development Project". 
    • The project aims to improve access to quality health services, particularly in the hilly districts of the state and to expand health financial risk protection for residents of the State.

Sports Current Affairs
  • Kolkata's iconic Salt Lake Stadium has been selected by FIFA to host the final of the Under-17 World Cup on 28th October 2017. 
    • The tournament will start in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai with the tournament's two opening matches being held on October 6. Notably, Guwahati and Navi Mumbai will host the semi-finals of the tournament.
  • Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar will host the Men's Hockey World League Final 2017 and World Cup 2018, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed today. 
    • Odisha will be the title sponsor of both the events, with the official event titles being 'Odisha Men's Hockey World League Final Bhubaneswar 2017' and 'Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018'.
  • India's men's archery team won a Gold medal in the men's compound event at the 2017 Asia Cup Stage 2 in Bangkok today. 
  • West Bengal won the 71st Edition Santosh Trophy of football by defeating Goa by 1-0 goals. 
    • It was 71st edition of Santosh Trophy and overall record 32nd win of West Bengal.
