Hello everyone, in our Lesson 39, we learnt about the prefixes Mal and MaleMal; Male represent the meanings bad; not correct and illToday we shall see the prefixes mega and megalo. Happy Reading :)

Day 40 : Mega; Megalo

  • mega, megalo - great; large
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • megaphone (noun) = a device for magnifying sound
    • mega - Prefix = large
    • phone - Root = sound; voice
  • megalopolis (noun) = a very large city where a great number of people live
    • megalo - Prefix = great
    • polis - Root = city

  • Megabit = a unit of computer memory
  • Megadont = having large teeth
  • Megadynamics = mechanics of the major earth movements
  • Megafog = instrument to give directions to befogged ships
  • Megalith = a large stone that forms a prehistoric monument
  • Megalomania = an unnaturally strong wish for power and control
  • Megalophonous = having a loud voice
  • Megalophthalmus = having large eyes
  • Megalopolis = avery large city
  • Megalosaurus = a carnivorous dinosaur
  • Megaloscope = an endoscope with an apparatus for magnifying
  • Megameter = instrument for observing the stars in order to determine longitude
  • Megaphone = a device for magnifying sound
  • Megapod = large footed
  • Megaprosopous = disease characterized by a large face
  • Megascopic = enlarged; visible to the naked eye
  • Megastore = a very large shop
  • Megatherm = any plant which requires great head and abundant moisture for growth
  • Megaton = a unit of explosive power chiefly used for nuclear weapons, equivalent to one million tons of TNT
  • Megawatt = a unit for mesaruring electrical power, equal to one million watts
