- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked the Health Ministry to increase the size of pictorial warnings on tobacco product packets to 65%.
- His direction has come in the backdrop of a controversy generated by BJP members of a parliamentary panel suggesting "nil" effects of smoking.

- Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan today formally launched the "GiveIt Up movement" in Karnataka.
- The movement appeals to the rich people to voluntarily give up their subsidy amount given on LPG cylinders.

- The 88th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (All India Marathi Literary Conference), an annual conference for literary discussions by Marathi writers was began at Ghumaan, Punjab.
- Punjab (Ghumaan) is hosting this conference for the first time.
- The literary conference is being held in this village to commemorate the legacy of Bhagat Namdev, a legendary 14th century literary figure from Maharashtra who lived at Ghumaan for nearly two decades.
- He was associated with the Bhakti Movement of that time.
- The Centre has given six months' more time to the states for rolling out the National Food Security Act (NFSA)
- The deadline, which has already been extended twice for implementing the food law, was ending on April 4.
- Only 11 states and Union Territories have so far implemented the National Food Security Act which was passed by Parliament in September 2013.
- The rest 25 states/UTs have not implemented it yet.
- Note : The law aims at providing legal entitlement to 5 kg of subsidized food-grains per person per month at Rs 1-3/kg to two-thirds of the country's population.

New Appointments
- West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was today sworn in as Mizoram Governor at the Raj Bhavan in Aizwal.
- Tripathi was appointed to take additional charge of Mizoram after state governor Aziz Qureshi was sacked by the Centre on March 28.
