Barack Obama has been named
Time magazine’s Person of the Year for the year 2012. "We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes, and Barack Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America." the magazine said. "In 2012, he found and forged a new majority, turned weakness into opportunity and sought, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union." it added. The selection was announced today (Wednesday - 19th December 2012) on NBC’s Today show. The short list for the honor included
Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head for advocating for girls’ education, Egyptian president
Mohamed Morsi, Apple CEO
Tim Cook and
Italian physicist Fabiola Giannati.
Important Notes :
- Barack Obama was already named as TIME's Person of the year for the year 2008. This is second time he got this honor
- "The Protester" named as TIME's Person of the year for the year 2011
- Mahatma Gandhi honored with this for the year 1930
