- The BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs held their regular meeting at New York.
- Ths meeting was chaired by India.
- In this meeting, the foreign ministers of Brics countries endorsed United Nations Security Council reforms saying it was necessary to make it "more representative and efficient" putting China and Russia publicly on the side for reorganisation.

- The Russian military has launched airstrikes against Islamic State militant targets in Syria.
- This move was approved after a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad to Vladimir Putin, who has also expressed concern about the number of Russian extremists in the country.

- Today (27th September) is World Tourism Day.
- The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
- The World Tourism Day celebration was started by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the year 1980.
- This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hosted a special high-powered summit called G4 Summit in New York.
- This G-4 summit is very special to India because this summit was hosted by India for the first in more than 10 years (after 2004)
- The G4 nations comprising Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan are four countries which support each other’s bids for permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council.

- The government today announced a Special assistance of Rs 1,000 crore during the current financial year for development of Andhra Pradesh.
- The funds will be utilised for the development of backward districts of Andhra Pradesh and creation of its new capital, including the Raj Bhawan, the High Court, the Secretariat, the Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Council, and other essential infrastructure.
- This will include Rs 350 crore for development of seven backward districts covering Rayalaseema and North Coastal region, Rs 350 crore for the new capital and Rs 300 crore for Polavaram irrigation project.
- The government had in Budget 2015-16 provided tax incentives to the state.
- The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, bifurcated the state, with the creation of Telangana taking effect from June 2, 2014.

- This day was first celebrated in 1982, and is kept by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples.
- In 2013, for the first time, the Day was dedicated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to peace education, the key preventive means to reduce war sustainably.
- Note : To inaugurate the day, the United Nations Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters (in New York City). This bell is cast from coins donated by children from all continents except Africa, and was a gift from the United Nations Association of Japan, as "a reminder of the human cost of war"; the inscription on its side reads, "Long live absolute world peace".

- In 1986 the American Centre for Marine Conservation held the first beach cleanup on the Texas coast with the aid of 2 800 volunteers.
- Since then, the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) has included inland lakes, rivers, streams and underwater sites in the cleanup and approximately half a million people in more than 100 countries have participated in the cleanup.

- The United Nations General Assembly today overwhelmingly approved a Palestinian resolution that will allow Palestine to fly its flag at U.N. headquarters, a move that infuriated Israel but which the Palestinians described as a step toward U.N. membership.
- There were 119 votes in favor (including India) out of 193 UN members.
- United States and Israel were among eight countries voted against the Palestinian-drafted resolution.
