International Current Affairs
- Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu has embarked on a 3-Nation visit to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
- This visit will be Vice President’s 1st ever high level visit (from India) to 3 Baltic countries.
- Main aim of this visit : To advance India’s outreach to important countries in region.
- This visit takes place in context of increasing political engagement, as well as intensified trade and commercial ties.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned home after a successful 2-day visit to Bhutan.
- During the visit, Prime Minister and the Bhutanese leadership resolved to take the bilateral cooperation beyond hydroelectric power sector.
- The two countries signed various MoUs to diversify the friendship.
- The sectors include, space, education, science, technology and legal education.
- In Sudan, main opposition coalition and the ruling military council have formally signed a final power-sharing deal, paving the way for a transition to a civilian-led government.
- This deal came after a long period of negotiations following the overthrow of longtime leader President Omar al-Bashir in the wake of mass protests.
- India suspended weekly Jodhpur-Munabao Thar Link Express amid the ongoing tension with Pakistan over the Kashmir issue.
- This move comes days after India cancelled Samjhauta Express from its side after Pakistan had announced suspension of all train services to India.
National Current Affairs
- The Uttar Pradesh government renamed Lucknow's Hazratganj Chauraha to 'Atal Chowk' on the occasion of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 1ast death anniversary.
- President Ram Nath Kovind today inaugurated an underground Bunker Museum at Raj Bhavan Mumbai.
- The Bunker Museum has Virtual Reality Booths in which visitors can time-travel to the 19th century when the bunker was constructed to fire cannons at approaching enemy ships.
- The history of Raj Bhavan has also been depicted in another section.
- Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated an international conference on teacher education in New Delhi.
- The 2-day event is being organized by the National Council of Teacher Education as part of silver jubilee celebration of its establishment in 1995.
- Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the state's 1st-ever CNG fuelling station in Dibrugarh.
- The state government is preparing a roadmap for setting up CNG fuelling station in all districts to make the state free from air pollution and to promote the use of clean and green fuel.
Science & Technology
- The researchers of the Rajiv Gandhi University (Arunachal Pradesh) have discovered 5 new fish species in various districts of the state.
- The scientific names of the newly-discovered fish species are :
- Mystus prabini, found in Sinkin and Dibang rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district.
- Exostoma kottelati, found in Ranga river in Lower Subansiri district.
- Creteuchiloglanis tawangensis, found in the Tawangchu river in Tawang district.
- Garra ranganensis, found in Ranga river.
- Physoschistura harkishorei, found in Dibang and Lohit rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district.
Awards & Honors
- Russian President Vladimir Putin today awarded the Hero of Russia (Russia's highest medal) to pilots Damir Yusupov and Georgy Murzin who landed a passenger plane in a field after its engines failed.
- All the 233 passengers on board the plane survived the emergency landing.
Sports Current Affairs
- India have won Gold at the Under 12 Asian Tennis Team championship held in Kazakhstan by defeating Chinese Taipei.
- Australia's South Africa-born all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne has become the 1st-ever concussion substitute in international cricket.
