International Current Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a 2 day visit to Bhutan from tomorrow. 
    • The main aim of this visit is to  strengthen India-Bhutan partnership.
    • 10 MoUs will be signed between the two countries and atleast 5 projects are expected to be inaugurated including Mangdechhu hydroelectric power project during Prime Minister's visit.
  • Deputy Secretary of US Department of State, John Sullivan today met External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi. 
    • They discussed the deep convergences of strategic relationship between the two countries.
National Current Affairs
  • During his Independence Day speech, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced reservation of 32% for STs, 13% for SCs and 27% for OBCs in state education and jobs. 
    • This leads to an overall reservation of 72%, which is 22% above the 50% limit set by Supreme Court. 
  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched his government’s flagship programme titled ‘Village Volunteers System’ aimed at providing government services at doorsteps of people. 
    • The scheme would be officially launched on 2 October 2019, which also marks 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the government will launch a scheme titled 'Jal Jeevan Mission' to bring piped water to households in the coming years. 
    • This scheme will bring piped water to households and will cost more than Rs 3.5 lakh crore.
  • Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has announced that a massive campaign will be launched to make India free of single-use plastic
    • In this regard, a series of meetings will be held with all stakeholders including state governments to chalk out a concrete plan to make it a people's campaign to realise the ultimate target.
  • Aadi Mahotsav, the national tribal festival, will start from tomorrow at Polo Ground in  Leh-Ladakh. 
    • The 9-day event will be inaugurated by the Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik.
    • Around 160 Tribal artisans from more than 20 states across the country will actively participate and showcase their masterpieces in this event.
    • Theme of Aadi Mahotsav 2019 : A celebration of the spirit of Tribal Craft, Culture and Commerce.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced that it is planning to dilute stake in its credit card subsidiary, SBI Cards and Payment Services, through an initial public offering. 
    • SBI had received in-principle approval from its central board to list SBI Card. 
    • Note : SBI currently holds 74% stake in SBI Card and will now seek regulatory approval to sell the stake.
Deaths
  • Former India batsman V B Chandrasekhar (57) passed away.
    • He represented India in 7 ODIs and played 81 first-class matches.
  • Today is 1st death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee
    • He served as the Prime Minister for 3 times. 
    • He was awarded India's highest civilian honour - Bharat  Ratna - in 2015. 
Books & Authors
  • Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering today praised the book 'Exam Warriors' authored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
    • "Woven with personal anecdotes, the content is so simple for a child to comprehend yet so profound and practical," he said.

  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman K. Sivan, was awarded Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Award by Tamil Nadu government. 
    • He was awarded in recognition of his stellar work in promotion of science and technology.
  • President Ramnath Kovind awarded Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman to scholars of Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Pali, Prakrit, Classical Kannada, Classical Telugu, Classical Malayalam and Classical Odiya for year 2019. The awardees are :

  • The Indian Embassy in Bulgaria felicitated Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty on Independence Day "for his outstanding contribution in bringing Bollywood movie shooting and production to Bulgaria".
Sports Current Affairs
  • Wrestler Deepak Punia has become India’s 1st junior World Champion in 18 years
    • He claimed a Gold medal at the Junior Worlds with a win over Russia’s Alik Shebzukhov at Tallinn, Estonia.
  • The Indian team consisting of Esow Alben, L Ronaldo Singh, Y Rojit Singh and Jemsh Singh won India's 1st Gold at a world cycling event, after landing winning gold at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships.
