International Current Affairs
- India has been designated as the Guest of Honour Country at the 33rd Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (Guadalajara International Book Fair), in Mexico.
- The book fair, to be organised from November 30 - December 8, will be "the largest book fair in the Spanish speaking world".
- The dedicated India pavilion at the fair will showcase over 35 Indian authors and artists, along with 15 publishing houses.
- India today handed over NPR 1.6 billion as reimbursement of part payment of the first and second tranches of housing reconstruction in Nuwakot and Gorkha (Nepal), among the areas affected in the devastating 2015 earthquake.
- Note : Until now, India has reimbursed a total of NPR 4.5 billion to Nepal, the statement added.
National Current Affairs
- A Pathankot court has sentenced 3 out of the 6 convicted for rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua last year to life imprisonment.
- 3 others have been handed a 5-year sentence each.
- Chaukhandi Stupa, an ancient Buddhist site located in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh (UP) has been declared as ‘protected area of national importance’ by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
- Note : For declaring the stupa as protected area government sought public feedback on 8 March 2019 for a period of two months.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has relaxed the norms for no-frills accounts, directing banks to provide cheque books and other facilities to basic account holders.
- The banks cannot ask account holders to maintain any minimum balance for such facilities.
- Note : Earlier, additional facilities made these accounts similar to regular savings accounts, making it mandatory to maintain a minimum balance and be levied other charges.
- Indian multinational information technology (IT) service and consulting company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today surpassed Reliance Industries (RIL) to become the most valued firm by market valuation.
- The government is planning to introduce a tax on cash withdrawal of ₹10 lakh and above in a year.
- The proposed move is aimed at discouraging paper currency usage and black money circulation, and encouraging digital transactions.
- The government is also considering to mandate Aadhaar authentication for all high-value cash withdrawals.
- Singapore has dethroned the United States as the most competitive economy in the world while India did not even make it to the top 40 economies in IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2019.
- India ranked at 43rd position, one position higher compared to 2018.

MOUs & Agreements
- India’s leading civil services training institution, National Center for Good Governance (NCGG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maldives Civil Services Commission for capacity building (training) of 1,000 civil servants of Maldives over next five years.
- This agreement was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Male (Maldives capital).
Science & Technology
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced that it is testing a "rosé-coloured" non-toxic 'green' fuel and a compatible propulsion system in space for the 1st time with its Green Propellant Infusion Mission (GPIM) spacecraft.
- The spacecraft is set to launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket later this month.
New Appointments
- BJP MP Virendra Kumar will be Pro-tem Speaker of the newly elected 17th Lok Sabha.
- Note : The main duty of the Pro-tem Speaker is to administer the oath of office to new LS members.
- Former National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief and Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar has been named Interim Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) until a new incumbent is chosen by PM Narendra Modi-headed selection panel.
- Kumar took over as Vigilance Commissioner in June 2018 and his tenure at the Commission will end in October 2020.
- The Centre government has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer V.S. Kaumudi as Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) by lowering the post to the rank of Additional Director General.
Books & Authors
- The biography of former Sri Lankan cricketer and a former captain of the Sri Lankan national team Sanath Jayasuriya was recently released.
- Titled as "Sanath Jayasuriya a Biography", the book has been authored by Chandresh Narayanan.
Sports Current Affairs
- India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who had scored a match-winning hundred against Australia on Sunday, has been ruled out of 2019 World Cup for 3 weeks due to fractured thumb.
- The 33-year-old had sustained the injury after being hit twice on his hand while batting against Australia and did not take the field during Australia's innings.
