International Current Affairs
  • The 1st BRICS Sherpa meeting under the Presidency of Brazil concluded at Curitiba in Brazil. 
    • Brazil's priorities for its Presidency includes science, technology and innovation, digital economy, New Development Bank and BRICS Business Council as well as countering transnational crime and terrorism.
    • During the meeting, India conveyed its support for the priority areas set out by Brazil, particularly to take forward BRICS cooperation on counter terrorism in a meaningful and concrete manner with BRICS member countries.
    • Indian delegation was led by : T S Tirumurti (Secretary, Economic Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs)
National Current Affairs
  • According to a recent report released by the Election Commission, West Bengal has the maximum number of 1st-time voters, around 20.1 lakh, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. 
    • With around 16.7 lakh young voters, Uttar Pradesh stood at 2nd spot followed by Madhya Pradesh with 13.6 lakh first-time voters.
    • Note : The number of people eligible to vote has reportedly increased by 8.4 crore as compared to 2014 General Elections.
Science & Technology
  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee has tied up with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to set up a Space Technology Cell within its campus.
    • The cell shall ensure maximising the use of research potential, infrastructure, expertise and experience that exist in the institutes.
Awards & Honors
  • Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the Business Line Changemaker Of The Year award to Arun Jaitley (Finance Minister) over successful implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). 
    • Jaitley received the award on behalf of the GST Council
    • The award was also presented to the petitioners against Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalised homosexuality.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred Padma awards on prominent personalities at a civil investiture ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
    • Folk Singer from Chhattisgarh Teejan Bai was honoured with Padma Vibhushan and Scientist Nambi Narayan was given the Padma Bhusan. 
    • Actor Manoj Bajpayee, Cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Basketball player Prashanti Singh, Footballer Sunil Chhetri, mountaineer Bachendri Pal were among the Padma Shri Awardees.
    • Note : The 1st set of Padma award was given on 11th of this month in which Mr Kovind had presented one Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan and forty-six Padma Shri Awards.
  • Swati Shingade of Pune, Maharashtra has bagged the 1st prize of DD Mahila Kisan Award for 2018-19.
    • As many as 110 women farmers participated in the award competition, out which five were selected for the grand finale.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come out with guidelines to prevent misuse of price-sensitive information by participants in markets for financial instruments.
    • The RBI said market participants, either acting independently or in collusion, shall not undertake any action with the intention to manipulate the calculation of a benchmark rate or a reference rate.
New Appointments
  • M R Kumar has taken over charge as the new Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
    • Kumar has replaced Hemant Bhargava who had been the Acting Chairman since January.
    • He will hold the post for a period of five years. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • India have been awarded the rights to host the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in 2020
    • By virtue of being the host country, India will take part in the tournament for the 1st time in its history. 
    • President of International Football Federation (FIFA) : Gianni Infantino 
    • Note : This will be the second FIFA tournament India will be hosting, after the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017.
  • Fabio Cannavaro, who led Italy to the World Cup triumph in 2006, has been named as China's new head coach
    • He is going to replace Marcello Lippi, who quit after China's quarter-final exit at the Asian Cup in January/
  • India's Kamalpreet Kaur clinched Gold medal in women's discus throw event on the opening day of the 23rd Federation Cup
