International Current Affairs
  • Today (10th February 2019) is the 1st-ever World Pulses Day, a designated United Nations global event to celebrate pulses worldwide and continue the important gains made with the 2016 International Year of Pulses.
    • Note : The Year 2016 was celebrated as International Year of Pulses to highlight the contribution of Pulses to sustainable food production and towards food security and nutrition. 
  • Abu Dhabi has included Hindi as the 3rd official language used in its courts, alongside Arabic and English
    • The language's inclusion is aimed at helping Hindi speakers to learn about litigation procedures, their rights and duties without a language barrier.
    • Important Note : The Indian community in the UAE constitutes 30% of the total population.
  • India has jumped eight places to 36th position on the recently released International Intellectual Property (IP) Index 2019, which analyses the IP climate in 50 global economies, this year.
    • India's eight-point jump in 2019 from 44th position in 2018 is the highest increase among 50 nations mapped by the index.

National Current Affairs
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a computerised mobile bus classroom in Varanasi today. 
    • The classroom will feature technologies like mobile devices, 3D printers, digital blackboard, computer workstation among others.
    • Aim of this move : To bring educational programs to regional, rural and remote areas of Varanasi by offering students fully equipped digital tools.
  • The Union Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar inaugurated the Centenary Celebrations (100th anniversary) of International Labour Organization (ILO), India at V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Noida.
    • ILO is a unique agency of the United Nations Organization (UNO) that sets international labour standards and promotes social protection and work opportunities for all.
    • It is tripartite in nature and works on the principal of collaboration among government, employers and workers.
    • The organisation was formed on 29 October 1919
    • India is one of the founding member of the organisation.
  • The Union Government has announced the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) as the mascot for the 13th Conference of Parties (COP) of the UN Convention on the conservation of migratory species (CMS) to be held in Gujarat next year.
    • The mascot for the event, Great Indian Bustard has been fondly named as ‘Gibi’.
  • Former Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia launched a political party titled, Hindusthan Nirman Dal.
Deaths
  • Actor Mahesh Anand (57), who was known for his roles as a villain in several Bollywood films of the 90s, passed away.
Science & Technology
  • India test-fired its helicopter-launched version of one of the most-advanced anti-tank weapons from the Odisha coast today.
    • Helina, the helicopter-launched version of the Nag anti-tank guided missile with a hit range of 7-8 km, was launched from an Army chopper.
    • The weapon system was tested for its full range at 12.55 pm near the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in Balasore district.
    • Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Helina is one of the most-advanced anti-tank weapons in the world
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The US is planning withdraw the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) from India, under which the country enjoys zero tariffs on $5.6 billion of exports to the US. 
    • This comes amidst India's revised FDI norms for e-commerce firms and data localisation of global card payments companies like MasterCard and Visa. 
    • Important Note : India has been the world's largest beneficiary of GSP.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Former India captain MS Dhoni has become the 1st Indian cricketer to play 300 T20 matches, reaching the milestone by featuring in the third T20I against New Zealand at Hamilton today. 
    • Overall, Dhoni is the 13th cricketer to make 300 appearances in T20 cricket. 
    • Note : Windies all-rounder Kieron Pollard holds the record of featuring in most T20 matches (446).
