The government recently announced the winners list of National Sports Awards for the year 2018. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu are going to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award- India's highest sports honour. With this, Kohli will become the 3rd Indian cricketer to be honored with this prestegious award after Sachin Tendulkar (1997) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2007). Apart from these, the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar for 2018 were givem to Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited for Identification and Nurturing of Budding & Young Talent, JSW Sports for Encouragement to Sports through Corporate Social Responsibility category and Isha Outreach in Sports for Development category. The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2017-18 was given to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

Heads of the Selection Committees :

These awards were given based on the recommendations of selection committees consisting of former olympian, arjuna awardees, dronacharya awardees, dhyan chand awardees, sporty journalists / experts / commentators and sports administrators. This year's heads include :

• The selection committee for Raji Gandhi Khel Ratna Award & Arjuna Awards was headed by Justice Indermeet Kaur Kochhar (Former Judge of Delhi High Court).
• The selection committee for Dronacharya Awards & Dhyan Chand Awards was headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal (former Chief Justice of High Court of Punjab and Haryana).
• The Selection committee for Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar was headed by Rahul Bhatnagar (sports secretary).
• The selection committee for MAKA Trophy was headed by Ashok Kumar (former Olympian). 

These awards will be presented to the winners by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapathi Bhawan on 25th December 2018.
