International Current Affairs
- Today (11th July) is World Population Day.
- This day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
- Objective of World Population Day : To increase the awareness of the people towards the worldwide population issues.
- Theme of World Population Day 2018 : “Family Planning is Human Right”.
- In a first, Indian Navy's P-8I long-range Maritime Patrol Aircraft has been inducted at Hawaii for participating in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, which is the world's largest international maritime exercise.
- As many as 26 countries will take part in this exercise this year and will undertake tactical exercises, including anti-submarine warfare and maritime reconnaissance missions.
- The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognized Sex addiction as a mental health disorder in its International Classification of Diseases list.
- A person is addicted when they have a "persistent pattern of failure to control intense, repetitive sexual impulses or urges resulting in repetitive sexual behaviour", WHO stated.
- Note : Earlier, WHO declared gaming addiction as a mental health disorder.
- The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has adopted Resolution 2427 aimed at providing legal framework for mainstreaming protection, rights, well-being and empowerment of children throughout the conflict cycle.
- The resolution has won unanimous approval of the 15 members of the council.
- The Global Innovation Index (GII) has ranked India as the 57th most innovative nation in the world.
- The country has improved its ranking from 60th position last year.
- Since 2011, Switzerland has been ranked at the top every year.

National Current Affairs
- Odisha government today ordered a ban on the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic in the state starting from October 2.
- The ban will be imposed in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur municipal corporations and Puri town in the first phase.
- The entire state will be covered in separate phases over the span of two years.
- Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur today announced a ₹1.55-crore project to set up a cow sanctuary at Kotla Barog.
- Unlike gaushalas where the animals are kept indoors and fed in-house, the state-of-the-art project will provide a natural living environment and grazing facility to at least 500 animals, especially cows.
- The move aims to solve the problem of stray cattle.
Science & Technology
- The India-Korea Technology Exchange Centre was inaugurated at National Small Industries Corporation premises in New Delhi.
- The purpose of centre is to create platform for MSMEs (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) of India and South Korea where they can be assisted to identify and exchange latest technologies, share management expertise, product development and technology applications for product development.
- This centre will create Technology Data Bank from each side to encourage technology transfers, production of high quality products in India.
- It will also encourage Joint Ventures (JVs) and business matching between Indian and South Korean SMEs, besides others.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- According to a recently released World Bank report, India is the 6th largest economy in the world, with a GDP of $2.59 trillion in 2017.
- India surpassed France and is behind the US, China, Japan, Germany and the UK.
- Further, the World Bank estimated the Indian economy to grow by 7.3% in 2018 and 7.5% in the next two years.
- India's third largest private-sector bank Axis Bank today announced it has recommended the names of three candidates for the CEO's post for approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- The candidate as approved by the RBI, will succeed Shikha Sharma, whose term as MD and CEO of the bank, is due to expire on December 31.
- The bank, however, didn't disclose the names of the shortlisted candidates.
- Andhra Pradesh has topped the ease of doing business 2016-17 rankings released by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) for the second year in a row with a score of 98.42%.
- Meghalaya has been ranked last in ease of doing business.

- Bollywood Actress Anushka Sharma is set to become the first Indian personality to get a 'talking statue' at Madame Tussauds Singapore.
- The interactive statue, which will be seen holding a phone, will greet fans with messages if one picks up the phone.
MOUs & Agreements
- India’s upper house of parliament Rajya Sabha and Senate of Rwanda has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue capacity building and cooperation.
- This MOU was signed between Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu and visiting President of Senate of Rwanda, Bernard Makuza in New Delhi.
- Gujarat Government’s Industries and Mines Department has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to strengthen trade, industrial relations.
- Note : KOTRA is national trade and investment promotion organisation operated by South Korea Government.
New Appointments
- Ex-PNB executive T Latha has been appointed as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of Dhanlaxmi Bank Limited.
- She replaced G Sreeram, who has retired from the office on July 1, 2018, on completion of his tenure.
- Latha has 35 years of banking experience with Punjab National Bank across a host of roles and responsibilities including Branch Management, Regional Management and National Level Credit Management handling a portfolio of around Rs 400 billion.
Sports Current Affairs
- France defeated Belgium to reach the FIFA World Cup 2018 final for overall third time and the first time since 2006.
- Satyarup Siddhanta has become the 2nd Indian mountaineer after Malli Mastan Babu to climb Mt Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano in the world (6,893 metres or 22,615 ft).
- Satyarup is also set to be the first Indian to climb Mt Sidley, the highest volcano of Antarctica, which will help him realise the dream of scaling seven summits and seven volcanic summits.
