International Current Affairs
- The historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to be held on June 12 will take place in the Capella Hotel on Singapore's Sentosa Island.
- Important Note : This summit will be the first ever between a sitting US President and a North Korean leader.
- Landlocked nation Ethiopia is going to build a new Navy as part of military reforms.
- Note : Ethiopia had disbanded its Navy in 1991 after its then-province Eritrea declared independence, leaving it landlocked.
National Current Affairs
- The Madhya Pradesh government has announced Bijli Bill Mafi Yojana 2018 (Power Bill Waiver Scheme), a waiver scheme for outstanding power bills for labourers and poor families.
- The scheme is expected to benefit around 77 lakh people in the state.
- The Uttar Pradesh government has prepared a report to implement One Nation One Election formula in the state.
- A high level seven member electoral reform Committee headed by State Government Spokesperson and Health minister Sidharth Nath Singh submitted its report to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard.
- The Committee has suggested that the formula can be implemented in two phases.
- The Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport near Varanasi is set to become the first Indian airport to have a national highway underneath its runway.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- In it's June 2018 monetary policy meet, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today increased the Repo Rate (the rate at which the RBI lends short-term money to the banks) by 25 Basis Points to 6.25 Per Cent.
- This was the first rate hike by the Indian central bank in four-and-a -half years, since the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government was voted into office in May 2014.

- The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has restricted Mobile Wallet Companies from accessing the Aadhaar database, effective July 1.
- All payment firms must now depend on customers to provide virtual Aadhaar numbers for authentication as they cannot do eKYC.
Awards & Honors
- Corporation Bank has bagged the ‘Investor Relations Award 2018’ under the category ‘Best Expectation Management (Mid Cap)’ for 2017-18.
- Chennai-based startup Calzy 3 has won the Apple Design award 2018, along with nine other startups from different countries.
- Calzy 3 is a customisable calculator that uses iOS technologies such as Drag & Drop to share results in other apps to help users perform day to day mathematical calculations.
- The Miss America Organization has dropped the swimsuit round from the competition this year onwards, saying contestants will no longer be judged on looks.
Books & Authors
- 4 year old Ayan Gogoi Gohain (Assam) was honoured with the ‘Youngest Author of India’ title by the Indian Book of Records.
- Ayan Gogoi Gohain has been honoured with this title for his book ‘Honeycomb’, which was published in January 2018.
Deaths
- Actor William Phipps (96), the voice of Prince Charming in the animated Disney film Cinderella, has passed away.
- Best known for his many roles in 1950s science fiction films, the prolific actor had appeared in more than 200 film and television productions during his career span.
MOUs & Agreements
- Telangana government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India to provide RS.5 lakh insurance cover to the farmers under ‘Telangana Rythu Beema’ scheme.
New Appointments
- Pranjal Patil (Maharashtra) has become the 1st visually-challenged woman IAS officer in India as she recently joined her posting as Assistant Collector in Kerala's Ernakulam district.
- In 2016, she secured 773 rank in the UPSC exam in her first attempt.
- Ecuador's Foreign Minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces was elected the next President of the UN General Assembly.
- With this, Maria became the 1st Latin American woman to head the UN body.
- Jordan’s King Abdullah II formally appointed Omar Razzaz as the country's new Prime Minister.
- Malaysia’s king Sultan Muhammad V has approved the appointment of Tommy Thomas, an ethnic Indian lawyer as the new attorney general.
- With this Tommy becomes the first minority to hold the post in 55 years.
Sports Current Affairs
- Undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has been named the world's highest-paid athlete by Forbes for the fourth time in seven years with $285 million in earnings.
- Lionel Messi stood at the 2nd spot followed by Cristiano Ronaldo.
