- The Scottish Parliament today voted 93 to 30 against the UK's EU Withdrawal Bill.
- The two countries have been at odds over the legislation that deals with the transfer of power after the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.
- Scotland earlier dropped its opposition to the bill and accepted the power-sharing proposals by the UK.
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a comprehensive plan titled 'REPLACE' to eliminate industrially-produced artificial trans fats from the global food supply by 2023.
- Elimination of trans fats is key to protecting the health and saving lives, the World Health Organization (WHO) said.
- The global health body estimates that every year, trans fat intake leads to over 5,00,000 deaths worldwide from cardiovascular diseases.

- President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 4th edition of Global Exhibition on services in Mumbai.
- He has also released the logo for Services and launched the portal.
- 25 Indian states and around 100 countries are expected to participate in Global Exhibition on Services, this year, with 625 exhibitors and 500 overseas delegates.
- Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala has allowed the BJP to prove majority and form the government after it emerged as the single largest party in the state.
- Currently, the BJP has won 95 seats and secured a lead in 9 constituencies.
- Meanwhile, the JD(S)-Congress alliance has won a total of 110 seats and is leading in 5 constituencies.
- To strengthen the security of women passengers , the North Eastern Railway (NER) has decided to introduce Panic Buttons in train coaches.
- The buttons will be placed at convenient spots for easy access.
- The NER is also planning to deploy women police personnel in suburban trains during night hours besides recruitment of women in the Railway Protection Force.
- The Uttar Pradesh government has started distributing 'shagun' to all newlyweds as part of an effort to promote family planning.
- The gift includes a marriage registration form, condoms, contraceptive pills, bindis and a home pregnancy testing kit.
- The government today clarified that Aadhaar has not been made mandatory for getting pension for government employees.
- The government said that Aadhaar is an additional facility to enable the use of technology for submission of life certificate without visiting banks.
- Note : There are about 48.41 lakh central government employees and 61.17 lakh pensioners.

- India emerged as the 3rd largest solar market in the world in 2017 behind China and the US.
- As of 2017-end, large-scale project development accounted for 92 percent of the all-time cumulative solar installations in India with 19.6 GW, and 2017 alone made up 90 percent of such installations with 8.6 GW.
- With 680 billionaires, the United States has more billionaires than China, Germany and India combined, according to a report by Wealth-X.
- While China has 338 billionaires, Germany and India have 152 and 104 billionaires respectively.
- The world billionaire population reached a record high of 2,754 last year while their combined wealth surged to record $9.2 trillion, the report added.
- Two independent directors of IDBI Bank have resigned after CBI named them in an FIR in connection with a ₹600-crore loan granted to former Aircel promoter C Sivasankaran's companies.
- Ninad Karpe and S Ravi will step down from the board with effect from May 11 and May 12 respectively.
- Note : The CBI had named 15 IDBI Bank officials in the FIR
- India has released grant of Neplaese Rupees (NRs) 18.07 crore for river training and construction of embankments along Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamla rivers in Nepal.
- Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over a cheque of grant to Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Secretary Ministry of Energy, Irrigation & Water Resources, Nepal in Kathmandu on 15th May.
MOUs & Agreements
- The states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttarakhand agreed to implement the ambitious National Health Protection mission, which aims to provide an annual coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family.
- The four states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh inked MoUs with the Union Health Ministry for the implementation of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Mission.
- The centrally-sponsored scheme, which will provide a coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually and benefit more than 10 crore families belonging to the poor and vulnerable sections of the society, is likely to be launched in August.

New Appointments
- Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli was given the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh while the state's Governor Anandiben Patel is on leave.
- Online classifieds platform Quikr has appointed its 1st Chief Financial Officer Rahul Tewari since its inception in 2008.
- Previously, Tewari worked as an Executive Vice President at ICICI Securities and other investment banking firms including Bank of America and Deutsche Bank.
- Former BCCI President Shashank Manohar has been re-elected as the independent Chairman of International Cricket Council after he was the sole nominee put forward by the ICC Board.
- Note : Manohar had become the first independent ICC Chairman in 2016.
- Vodafone Group today announced that CEO Vittorio Colao will step down in October after working at the company for a decade.
- The telecom firm's current CFO Nick Read will replace Colao as the new CEO.
