International Current Affairs
- Malaysia's Mahathir Mohamad (92) today became the world's oldest Prime Minister.
- Mahathir, who earlier led the country from 1981-2003, defeated scandal-hit Najib Razak in the general election, ending six decades of rule by a coalition he once led.

- The first-ever meeting between the US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be held in Singapore on 12th June.
- The 6th United States-India Aviation Summit was concluded today in Mumbai (Maharashtra).
- This summit was formally inaugurated by Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu on 9th May.
- The summit is a technical, policy and commercial forum.
- It served to assist India civil aviation agencies and aviation industry representatives, including private sector airlines and airport operators, to identify advanced US technologies and practices that can support their expansion and modernization efforts.
National Current Affairs
- Today (11th May) is National Technology Day.
- This day is observed in India to mark Indian technological advancement.
- The day, May 11, has been declared National Technology Day by the Indian Government in order to commemorate the history of India's technological capability and expertise.
- On this day in the year 1998, India successfully tested 5 nuclear powered bombs in Pokhran, Rajasthan, to demonstrate its defence capability, which is regarded as one of the significant moments of Indian history.
- On this day in the year 1999, the first indigenous aircraft 'Hansa-3' was test flown at Bangalore.
- Theme of National Technology Day 2018 : “Science and Technology for a sustainable future.”
- Telangana government has launched Rythu Bandhu (friend of farmers) Scheme, an investment support scheme to support livelihood of farmers.
- It is first of its kind investment support scheme for farmers to be launched by any state in India.
- Under this scheme, farmers will directly get financial support twice every year to maximise agricultural production and productivity.
- They will get investment support of Rs 8,000 per acre every year (Rs. 4000 each for monsoon and Rabi season) as crop investment support.
- About 58 lakh farmers who till over 1.42 crore acres of land in the state are expected to be benefitted from the scheme.
- For the first time the The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully conducted Scheduled Test for Airmen Recruitment (STAR) online, taking forward Digital India Initiative of Government.
- This makes IAF first of any of three services to undertake selection tests online.
- United States’ prestigious Stanford University has agreed to assist Uttar Pradesh Government to combat chronic disease like Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES).
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- According to a survey by Grant Thornton, India has slipped to the 6th position globally in Business Optimism Index for the first quarter of this year.

- The global benchmark Brent crude rose to a 3.5 year high of $77 per barrel after US President Donald Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal.
- The withdrawal has raised concerns that the global oil supply will be squeezed.
- Note : The US will impose "highest level of sanctions" on Iran and has given companies a wind-down period of 90-180 days.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it would buy Rs. 10,000 crore ($1.50 billion) of government bonds via Open Market Operation (OMO), after failing to sell all the debt it had offered to bidders.
Awards & Honors
- Nisha Bhalla, a 46-year-old holistic coach and consultant from Mumbai was felicitated with the annual 'Excellent Woman of Excellence' award by the Women Economic Forum (WEF) for her spiritual service.
New Appointments
- The Russian State Duma (the lower house of parliament) has appointed Dmitry Medvedev for a new term as the Prime Minister.
Sports Current Affairs
- England's cricket board has introduced a new 'Rooney Rule' under which at least one black, Asian or minority ethnic candidate will be interviewed during the recruitment stage for all national coaching positions.
- In addition to the recruitment stage interviews, ten south Asian coaches will be given mentoring and work placements in the next two years.
- After Norway took the decision for equal pay, New Zealand's female international football players are set to be paid the same as the male international football players.
- The female players will also receive equal prize money, equal rights for image use and will also have the same travel benefits as their male counterparts.
