International Current Affairs
  • Today (25th April) is World Malaria Day.
    • This day recognizes global efforts to control malaria.
    • Globally, 3.3 billion people in 106 countries are at risk of malaria.
    • Theme for World Malaria Day 2018 : “Ready to beat malaria“.
    • Important Note :
      • Wolrd Malaria Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns currently marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • The Prime Minister of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan resigned from the post today, just 7 seven days after he was sworn-in. 
    • This follows protests against Sargsyan who decided to take on the post after serving for over a decade as Armenia's President. 
  • A trial service of Transnational Buses plying between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal was launched today. 
    • The buses launched under the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal Motor Vehicles Agreement signed in June 2015.
  • The Donald Trump administration is planning to to end allowing spouses of H1-B visa holders to work legally in the US.
    • This move will impact tens of thousands of Indians.
  • The French National Assembly has passed an immigration reform bill that shortens the asylum application deadline from 120 to 90 days. 
    • The bill also doubles the time for which illegal migrants can be detained, and introduces a one-year prison sentence for entering France illegally. 
National Current Affairs
  • A 2-day coastal security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ was held along Kerala coast
    • Aim of Sagar Kavach : To strengthen and assess the loopholes in the coastal security mechanism
    • The exercise saw participation of Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Indian Navy, Coastal Police and Marine Enforcement wing and various other security stakeholders.
  • A Jodhpur court today sentenced self-styled godman Asaram to life imprisonment after he was convicted of raping a minor girl in his ashram in 2013. 
  • The Uttar Pradesh Tourism department today launched its first 24x7 helpline (18601801364) for tourists. 
    • The helpline will provide facilities such as information about tourism centers, the best modes of travelling, and the lodging of complaints.
Science & Technology
  • The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is tying up with United States and Finland to develop new pollution-forecast system that will help anticipate Particulate Matter (PM) levels at least two days in advance and at greater resolution. 
    • Note : Particulate matter is the sum of all solid and liquid particles suspended in air many of which are hazardous.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance 2018 got the President's assent. 
    • With this new law, the Enforcement Directorate is moving to confiscate assets worth over ₹15,000 crore belonging to economic offenders who fled India.
    • The ED has decided to approach a special court for Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi to be declared 'fugitives'.
  • The government has increased Minimum Support Price (MSP) of raw jute by ₹200 to ₹3,700 per quintal for 2018-19 season. 
    • The decision would benefit jute farmers mainly in West Bengal, Assam and Bihar which account for 95% of the country's jute production. 
  • The government has held preliminary meetings on proposed merger process of three state-owned general insurers namely Oriental Insurance Company Ltd (OICL), National Insurance Company Ltd (NICL), and United India Insurance Company Ltd (UICL)
    • The three insurers together collected a premium of about ₹44,000 crore in the financial year 2017 and their combined market share was nearly 35% in the general insurance market.
MOUs & Agreements
  • The Union Government (Ministry of Finance) has signed a Loan Agreement with the World Bank for IBRD credit of US$ 125 for Innovate in India for Inclusiveness Project.
    • The objective of project is to nurture indigenous innovation, foster local product development and accelerate commercialization process in biopharmaceutical and medical devices industry in India.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has stepped down as the captain of Delhi Daredevils after losing five out of six matches in IPL 2018 so far. 
    • Important Note : Batsman Shreyas Iyer will replace Gambhir as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils.
  • Former Indian Navy Commando, Praveen Teotia, completed the 2018 Triathlon Championships in South Africa and became India's first disabled man to win the 'Ironman' title
    • Note : Teotia had been shot four times during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, sustaining injuries to his lungs and ear. 
  • World record holder Shahzar Rizvi claimed India's first medal (i10 meter air pistol event) at the ongoing ISSF World Cup organised by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) at Changwon, South Korea.
