International Current Affairs
  • Washington today became the 1st US state to set up its own net-neutrality requirements after U.S. regulators repealed Obama-era rules that banned internet providers from blocking content or interfering with online traffic.
    • Governors of five other US states namely, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Montana and Vermont have also signed net-neutrality related executive orders.
National Current Affairs
  • On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2018, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched a Menstrual Hygiene Campaign titled #YesIBleed
    • The “#Yes I Bleed” campaign has been initiated formally across all multi-media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube to spread awareness about issue.
    • #YesIBleed is second edition of such campaign that aims to create holistic approach to issue of menstruation, which is experience that transcends culture, class, and caste.
  • The government has sanctioned ₹1,000 crore for the phase two of the IMPRINT India programme
    • Projects will cover domains like defence, information technology, and energy. 
    • IMPRINT Impacting Research Innovation and Technology
  • After 56 years, the Government has shifted headquarters of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) to Ballabhgarh in Faridabad District of Haryana from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. 
    • The Animal Welfare Board of India was set up under Section IV of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act(1960). 
    • Since its inception in 1962, AWBI has operated from Chennai. 
    • Reason behind this shifting : For better coordination between the Environment Ministry and AWBI for carrying out the animal welfare activities.
Science & Technology
  • Cybersecurity agencies have detected a new malware called Saposhi, which can take over electronic devices and use them for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks
    • Saposhi Malware is capable of taking over electronic devices and turning them into bots (device taken over by malware) which can then be used for any purpose.
  • Google has unveiled a quantum processor with 72 qubits, surpassing IBM's 50-qubit computer unveiled last year. 
  • Joint investigation committee (JIC) comprising US and Indian officials has test-fired M777 Ultra-Light Howitzers (ULH) at Pokhran firing range in Rajasthan. 
    • This test was conducted in the wake of accident during its trial in September 2017.

  • Nagaland Governor PB Acharya has appointed NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio as the Chief Minister and asked him to prove majority in the Assembly on or before March 16. 
  • Nigerian-origin Tony Iwobi has been elected as Italy's first black senator
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The shareholders of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have approved India’s candidature to international financial institution. 
  • Forbes Billionaires List 2018 :
    • With a net worth of $112 billion, Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos has topped the Forbes billionaires list for the first time, dethroning Bill Gates who topped the list 18 times in the past 24 years. 
    • Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has been ranked India's richest person.
    • Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has been ranked second richest Indian with a fortune of $18.8 billion.
    • Jindal Group Chairperson Savitri Jindal is the richest Indian woman with a fortune of $8.8 billion. 
    • The 39-year-old Founder of mobile payments startup Paytm, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, is the youngest Indian in the list. 
  • India for first time has started process of importing Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) from United States
    • The development comes on the heels of India’s first import of crude oil from the US in October 2017.
  • Iraq has overtaken Saudi Arabia to become India’s top crude oil supplier by supplying 38.9 million tonnes (MT) crude oil in the current financial year.
    • It was fifth of the India’s oil needs.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to two Indian Premier League titles, has been appointed as Captain of Delhi Daredevils ahead of 2018 season.
