International Current Affairs
  • PM Narendra Modi is going to visit neighboring countries Bhutan and Bangladesh during the coming months aiming to show his government's support to both Thimpu and Dhaka as both prepare for general elections this year.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron arrived on a four-day India visit along with his wife Brigitte Marie-Claude Macron and senior ministers from his Cabinet.
    • He was received at the airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a special gesture.
    • During the visit, the India and France would look to boost ties, especially in the areas of maritime security and counter-terrorism.
    • An agreement on the Jaitapur nuclear power plant, which is being built with French assistance, is expected to be signed during the visit.
National Current Affairs
  • Today is 49th Raising Day of the CISF.
    • The CISF came into existence in 1969 to provide integrated security cover to public sector undertakings and now has a strength of around 1.4 lakh personnel.

  • The Uttar Pradesh Secretariat will go paperless from April as all 93 departments in the Secretariat will be connected with an e-office system. 
  • Rajasthan has become the 2nd Indian state to pass a bill awarding death penalty to those convicted of raping girls aged up to 12 years. 
    • Note : Last year, Madhya Pradesh enacted a law to award death sentence to those guilty of raping girls aged 12 years or below.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Viola Desmond, a woman who stood up for the rights of black people in Nova Scotia and went to jail for it, was honoured today as a new $10 bill featuring her image was unveiled.
    • The vertical banknote was unveiled by Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz during a ceremony at the Halifax Central Library.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of ₹5 crore on Airtel Payments Bank for breaching Know Your Customer (KYC) norms. 
    • The fine was imposed after the RBI found it guilty of opening payments bank accounts of subscribers without their consent. 
  • Passport details will be made mandatory for availing loans worth more than ₹50 crore from state-owned banks, the government has announced today. 
    • Further, the loan application form will be modified to incorporate passport details of borrowers. 
    • The government has also asked banks to collect passport details of all existing borrowers with loans over ₹50 crore in the next 45 days.
  • The government of Telangana today launched Women Entrepreneurship Hub (WE-Hub), India's first state-led incubator for women entrepreneurs. 
    • The incubator will help women entrepreneurs establish their own enterprises by providing services including seed funding, mentoring, and business guidance.

  • Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has been named cab-hailing startup Uber's first Brand Ambassador in India. 
  • The Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest body for decision making and policy formulation for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), today re-elected Bhaiyyaji Joshi as the Sarkaryavah (General Secretary) of the RSS for the next three years.
  • CPN Maoist Centre leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara was today elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the bicameral federal parliament of Nepal.
