International Current Affairs
- Today (11th December) is International Mountain Day.
- This day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003.
- This year, the celebration of this Day aims to highlight Mountain Products. Mountain peoples, who are largely family farmers, base their livelihoods on highly diversified activities.
- Theme of International Mountain Day 2017 — “Mountain under Pressure: climate, hunger, migration”
- Ultra Violet has been announced as the 'Color of The Year' for 2018 by Pantone Color Institute, a world renowned authority on colours.
National Current Affairs
- Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar today launched India's first-ever mobile food testing laboratory.
- Built at a cost of ₹41 lakh, the laboratory is mounted on a bus which will travel across the state checking food samples on the spot.
Science & Technology
- China-based firm Three Gorges Group has started producing power from part of a 150-megawatt Floating Solar Plant in east China, the largest of its kind in the world.
- The construction of the project started in July with an investment of about 1 billion yuan ($151 million). The entire facility is expected to come online by May 2018.
New Appointments
- The Indian National Congress today announced that Rahul Gandhi has been elected as its new President, taking over from his mother Sonia Gandhi.
- Rahul was declared the party President after no other candidate filed a nomination to contest the presidential elections.
Awards & Honors
- The 2017 Nobel Laureates were handed their medals, personal diplomas, and cash awards worth 9 million SEK ($1.07 million).
- While the ceremony for Peace Prize took place in Norway, the remaining honours were awarded in Stockholm by the Swedish King.

- International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) (founded in Australia)
- Reason : For its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons.

- Richard H. Thaler (USA)
- Reason : For contributions to behavioural economics
Sports Current Affairs
- Australia beat Argentina to win Hockey World League Final Gold at Bhubaneswar.
- Note : India defeated Germany in the final to grab the Bronze medal.
