Hello everyone, I am Rajarajeswari. M from Hyderabad. Working in Allahabad Bank, Koti Branch. From last few days a WhatsApp message has been circulating stating the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved a 5-day week work schedule for the banking industry starting from 1st June 2017.

Many people including banking aspirants tend to believe this news because now a days the RBI is on a spree of introducing new innovative ideas (including demonetization).

Fake message circulating in WhatsApp and FB Groups
Obviously, this news has evoked mixed reactions, a hope of relief for banking employees and aspirants and despair for customers who are finding the present alternate week saturday shoutdown already troublesome.

As we don't have any official confirmation about the news, I talked to sources across banks, Indian Banking Association (IBA) and the employees union associations. And realized that "There is no such notification from the RBI and the WhatsApp message is a hoax".

In a recent Interview, Vishwas Uttagi representing United Forum Of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of 9 PSU banks unions, confirmed that the message is a hoax. “This is our long pending demand and the last wage settlement approved alternate weekends off for bank employees. We will be meeting with the IBA on May 2 at 4 pm to initiate discussions on our many pending demands. But as of date, there is no such notification from the RBI and we are yet to begin any fresh talks on the matter of 5-day week,” he said.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a notification about working hours and bank holidays on 28th August 2015. You can read that notification from HERE. After this, the bank hasn't released any sort of notification in this regard.
